Windstream Hosted Solutions Launches Docker PaaS Solution

Customers can accelerate application deployment with container technology

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., — Windstream Hosted Solutions, provider of cloud and data center solutions and a part of Windstream (NYSE:WIN, news, filings), a leading provider of advanced network communications, announces the launch of Docker—its first container Platform as a Service (PaaS) solution—to its public cloud customers, offering rapid scalability based on the needs each customer.

Docker offers a standardized format for easy integration into any existing environment and features container technology, allowing customers to focus on application performance rather than infrastructure. Containerization enables applications to run in complete isolation from each other, so that the applications are only minimally aware of their host Operating System (OS) and underlying host hardware.

“Offering this PaaS solution to our customers brings them even greater efficiency and productivity, ultimately helping them grow their business,” said Rob Carter, vice president of data center marketing for Windstream. “As the newest trend, Docker’s container technology is a must-have in data centers of the future. Containerization provides a more modular, efficient, higher-density method of virtualization that allows for software automation, orchestration, speed and scalability of applications with portability across all cloud platforms and virtual machines.”

Docker, like other PaaS solutions, frees users from the constraints of having to install in-house hardware and software to develop or run a new application. With Windstream’s Docker solution, customers can better utilize their infrastructures — quickly assembling applications from components and getting code tested and deployed to production as efficiently and as quickly as possible.

“Increased flexibility, cost savings, ease of maintenance and its scale-out features are just a few of Docker’s benefits,” said Joseph Harding, Windstream’s executive vice president and enterprise chief marketing officer. “Docker will help our cloud users gain more control over their applications and workflow— ultimately putting Windstream’s “smart solutions, personalized service” brand promise to work for them.”

“Increased flexibility, improved efficiency, and better economics are driving more organizations to the cloud,” said Amy Larsen DeCarlo, Principal Analyst at Current Analysis. “Windstream’s Docker solution leverages container-based cloud technology that yield these benefits, which further strengthens the differentiated value proposition that Windstream Hosted Solutions offers the enterprise market.“

Windstream Hosted Solutions, with its growing nationwide network of 27 data centers, offers a robust cloud-computing solution that improves the efficiency and availability of IT resources and applications for enterprise businesses, allowing them to rapidly implement cloud services without capital investments so they can reshape their environment on demand. The Windstream Hosted Solutions suite includes public, private and hybrid cloud products, available to businesses nationwide. These managed and dedicated hosting solutions, combined with Windstream’s full lineup of advanced network communications and technology products—including voice and data services such as VoIP, SIP trunking, MPLS, and dedicated high-speed internet—allow Windstream to offer its customers a complete set of integrated services.
