QTS Hosts Second Annual Information Security and Compliance Forum in San Jose, California

Overland Park, Kan. – June 18, 2015 – QTS Realty Trust (NYSE: QTS) hosted its second annual Information Security and Compliance Forum Tuesday, at Cinnabar Hills Golf Club in San Jose, California. More than 100 enterprise information technology professionals attended the event to address emerging cybersecurity issues and mitigation strategies, including the importance of maintaining data compliance.

QTS, a leader in data center security and compliance, hosted this year’s event in Silicon Valley to highlight their West coast presence. QTS owns and operates premium, state-of-the-art data centers in Santa Clara and Sacramento, California, with an additional 23 data centers in strategic locations around the globe.

Morning keynote Stephen Coty, Chief Security Evangelist – Alert Logic, a leading provider of Security-as-a-Service solutions for the cloud, shared highlights from their soon to be released 2015 Cloud Security Report. His presentation, titled “Stay Ahead of the Attackers,” highlighted trends in cloud cybersecurity, how attack types vary dramatically across specific industry verticals, plus the latest enterprise-level cybersecurity models and best practices.

Justin Somaini, Vice President and Chief Trust Officer – Box, the world’s leading enterprise software platform for secure content collaboration, delivered the closing keynote, which focused on the disruptive evolution of cloud computing and its security implications now and into the future. He addressed the fact that security is becoming a competitive differentiator for information technology providers, setting apart those companies who go beyond certifications and SLAs.

The forum featured two panel discussions moderated by Adrian Sanabria, Senior Security Analyst – 451 Research. The first panel, Emerging Security Threats and Vulnerabilities, featured Coty, Somaini, Eddie Satterly, Chief Technology Officer – Emerging Business Group, CSC; and Kurt Manske, Vice President of Corporate IT and Compliance – QTS. Panel discussion included the impact of the Internet of Things and the nuances of information security in public, private and hybrid clouds.

The Compliance panel included legal and corporate governance expert Laura Fey Clark, Principal – Fey, LLC; Brandon Lanier, Cloud Sales Manager – Zerto; Jim Shook, Director of eDiscovery and Compliance Practice – EMC; Laura Lothan, Director of Information Security – Sephora; and Oliver Schmidt, Chief Audit Executive – QTS. Discussion topics included how laws and corporate culture must adapt to reflect the importance of data security, privacy and compliance issues.

Immediately following the forum, attendees participated in a golf tournament at the world-class Cinnabar Hills Golf Club. Proceeds from the tournament supported Wounded Warrior Project, one of multiple national charities QTS supports. Wounded Warrior Project offers a variety of programs, services and events for wounded military veterans.
