Frontier Communications’ Three-Year Investment in Idaho Tops $39.3M

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho, – May 13, 2015 – Frontier Communications (NYSE:FTR, news, filings) has invested more than $39.3 million in capital expenditures in Idaho during the past three years, including more than $11.8 million in 2014.

Major capital expenditures supported engineering initiatives and improved network infrastructure for residential and commercial customers in Adams, Benewah, Bingham, Blaine, Boise, Bonner, Boundary, Camas, Clearwater, Idaho, Kootenai, Latah, Nez Perce, Owyhee, Shoshone Canyon and Valley counties.

“Frontier’s investments in Idaho are being felt throughout the communities we serve,” said Mike Towne, Frontier Vice President and General Manager for Idaho. “Our powerful network, together with our dedicated local employees, is delivering tremendous benefits to our customers and shareholders alike. We are hitting our stride and foresee even greater advancements on the horizon.”

The company’s Idaho market also received incremental support in 2014 from the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Connect America Fund (CAF). The CAF funding, totaling more than $88,000, allows Frontier to accelerate broadband availability in underserved areas.

“Continued investment in Idaho is vital to the region’s economic development, increases opportunities for consumers, and supports businesses of all sizes from small shops to larger enterprises,” commented Towne.

Frontier has invested more than $39 million of its own capital over the past three years to increase broadband access and improve network infrastructure.

Frontier’s 2014 operational highlights for the state of Idaho include:

  • Network upgrades to increase available bandwidth, enable faster broadband speeds and provide multi-path routes for both commercial and residential customers in Northern Idaho.
  • Strategic investments in next-generation equipment to strengthen backhaul capabilities, allowing higher-speed products throughout Frontier’s service areas.
  • Expansion of Premium High-Speed Internet services (12-24 Mbps).

Throughout the year, Frontier sponsored dozens of community events in Idaho including North Idaho Fair, Hockeyfest/Gretzky and friends NHL Players Fundraiser, Moscow United Way Dash for Cash, University of Idaho Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival and Silverwood Theme Park – Frontier Days.
