Hurricane Electric Continues to Expand Globally, Adding Second Location in Japan

New Point-of-Presence at Equinix OS1 in Osaka, Japan strengthens Hurricane Electric’s long-standing partnership with Equinix while meeting the demand for Internet bandwidth in the Asia Pacific Market

OSAKA, Japan, Apr 07, 2015 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Hurricane Electric, the world’s largestIPv6-native Internet backbone, today announced that it has added a second Point of Presence (PoP) in Japan at Equinix OS1, located at 1-26-1 Shinmachi Nishi-ku (Nishi Shinsaibashi Building), Osaka City, Osaka 550-0013, Japan.

Operating within the major business market of Osaka, Japan, Equinix OS1 is the first carrier neutral global data center in the city. Boasting 16,000 square feet of colocation space, the facility features best-of-breed seismic protection features as well as premium data center services and on-site support. With a direct connection to the Dojima area (Osaka’s communications network core), Equinix OS1 is a premiere location for area businesses to house their critical IT infrastructure, ensuring access to robust connectivity options.

With Hurricane Electric’s new PoP, customers of Equinix OS1 will now have the option for increased network capacity through 100GE (100 Gigabit Ethernet), 10GE (10 gigabit Ethernet), GigE (1 gigabit Ethernet) and 100BaseT network connections. Additionally, these customers now also have the chance to exchange IP traffic, or “peer,” with Hurricane Electric’s global network.

“Hurricane Electric is delighted to continue its decade long partnership with Equinix,” said Mike Leber, President of Hurricane Electric. “Hurricane Electric is currently seeing a lot of growth and demand in the APAC market and this latest expansion with Equinix fits nicely into our overall global expansion plans.”

In February, Hurricane Electric was named to CRN's 2015 Data Center 100 as one of the top twenty Infrastructure Providers.
