Cyan to Demonstrate Award-Winning N-Series DCI Platform at OFC Conference

March 23, 2015

Cyan (NYSE: CYNI), a leading provider of SDN, NFV, and packet-optical solutions for network operators, will be showcasing the N-Series Open Hyperscale Transport Platform (OHTP) as well as Blue Planet SDN Platform at the OFC Conference taking place March 22-26, 2015 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

The demos will take place at the Cyan booth 2362, and include:

  • N-Series OHTP – Designed to lower the cost and complexity of 100G cloud and data center interconnect (DCI) networks, the N-Series combines an open Linux network operating system with COTS-based silicon and photonic components. The modular 1RU platform will enable network operators to leverage best-in-breed optical networking technologies and standards as they emerge.
  • Blue Planet SDN Platform – The industry’s first carrier-grade, multi-vendor SDN platform for network operators and the WAN, Blue Planet has been implemented in networks worldwide since its introduction in November 2012. Cyan will be demonstrating the platform’s SDN and NFV capabilities, designed to simplify service virtual and physical resource orchestration across data centers and the WAN.

Cyan’s N-Series OHTP was recently recognized by the 2015 Lightwave Innovation Awards, a program that showcases best-in-breed products and solutions driving improvements and innovation in optical technology worldwide, with a score of 4.0 out of 5.0 by a judge’s panel including executives from Huawei, Verizon, Coriant, ADVA Optical Networking, Oclaro, and JDSU.

“Cloud and content providers are building hyperscale data centers to keep pace with rapidly increasing demand, yet until now, increasing bandwidth capacity between these data centers has required the deployment of proprietary transport platforms based on custom optical and silicon technology that is expensive and limits scale,” said Joe Cumello, CMO, Cyan. “Cyan developed the N-Series specifically to address the long-term requirements of the DCI market. We believe this product is a key step in unlocking scale and reducing the cost of interconnected cloud and data center networks.”

The N-Series will provide a fundamentally new model for operating DCI networks that reduces the cost of high-capacity optical transport, while eliminating the vendor lock-in and complexity associated with proprietary, vertically integrated solutions. Purpose-built for DCI applications, the N-Series will utilize an abstracted Linux operating system and COTS components to provide the lowest cost-per-Gbps available in the market. With the N-Series, Cloud and content providers will be able to automate, manage, and scale the DCI network in the same way they operate their server and top-of-rack infrastructure today.

Cyan introduced the N-Series in February of this year and is currently signing up trial customers.
