Zayo Expands Dark Fiber Offering Between Omaha and Dallas

Zayo to Build Unique Omaha to Dallas Route

BOULDER, Colo.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–

Zayo Group Holdings, Inc. (ZAYO), a global provider of dark fiber solutions, today announced a new intercity dark fiber route between Omaha, Neb. and Dallas. The 1,000 mile route will connect Omaha, Neb., Kansas City, Bentonville, Ark., Tulsa, Okla. and Dallas and traverse through many rural areas of Arkansas, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas.

The expansion adds an additional major intercity route following other recently completed or acquired routes between San Francisco and Sacramento, San Diego and Yuma, Ariz. and Denver and Chicago. Construction on the new route is expected to be completed in 2017 and will include 17 neutral colocation sites to provide space and power for customers. Following completion, Zayo will have long haul dark fiber available on more than 16,000 route miles in the United States and Europe.

The route enables a new path connecting Kansas City, Denver and Dallas, reducing the network latency for customers with critical applications and data centers in these markets. Zayo is considering using existing assets to further extend the route from Dallas to Houston. The network will be underground, will contain multiple conduits, and will be diverse from other existing routes.

“This expansion is the result of strong demand from customers for long haul dark fiber which provides the most control and favorable economics in an environment where bandwidth needs are quickly increasing,” said Pam Moore, vice president of long haul dark fiber at Zayo. “Zayo is focused on long haul network infrastructure that supports growth of the Internet economy.”

Industries such as wireless, media and content, oil and gas, utilities, technology and retail have seen increasing bandwidth demand driven by the propagation of mobile devices, big data, streaming content, and the shift to cloud applications. Zayo’s long haul dark fiber solutions provide these industries with virtually unlimited bandwidth, physical security, and cost-effective scaling needed to accommodate increasing bandwidth demands.
