Ericsson supports China Mobile Hong Kong’s LTE/EPC enhancement

  • Users will be able to enjoy HD voice call quality, instant call-set-up, and use superfast LTE data services during calls with voice over LTE

One of Hong Kong’s leading mobile operators, China Mobile Hong Kong, selected Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC, news, filings) as the sole supplier to further enhance its converged LTE FDD/TDD and Evolved Packet Core network. The new capabilities will bring more benefits to China Mobile Hong Kong’s subscribers. The network enhancement spans a wide range of capabilities including voice over LTE (VoLTE), Ericsson Charging System, Evolved IP network solution, and Proactive Support Services. These capabilities will further enhance the user experience and optimize the operation of the network.

With the voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology, users will have an improved experience when using their LTE smartphones. The technology enables superior HD voice call quality, instant call-set-up and superfast LTE data services during calls.

Through the Ericsson Charging System solution, users will have greater control of their roaming expenditure and can subscribe to personalized offers. The solution also enables an easy and visual way of creating and testing new services and bundles, shortening the time to market for China Mobile Hong Kong.

Ericsson SSR 8000 Smart Services Routers, used in Evolved Packet Core and Evolved IP network solution, will allow China Mobile Hong Kong to simplify network design and operation.

Ericsson has been the sole supplier of China Mobile Hong Kong’s LTE FDD network, and its network partner for more than 19 years. Ericsson was also selected to expand the operator’s commercial LTE network with TD-LTE (LTE TDD) in Hong Kong.

Ericsson is the sole supplier for a complete voice over LTE solution, based on the IP Multimedia Subsystem with Call Session Control Function, Multimedia Telephony Application Server, Media Resource System, Session Border Gateway and software upgrade of the LTE FDD/TDD radio access network and Evolved Packet Core network, Service Aware Policy Control, User Data Consolidation and Home Subscriber Server.  Evolved IP Network solution, end-to-end solution design, installation, configuration, integration, as well as verification are also included in the contract.
