Antel, the Uruguayan company leader in telecommunication, Selects Net Insight for National DTT network

Nimbra solution offers flexibility, scalability and 100 percent QoS

STOCKHOLM, Sweden – Net Insight, a leading provider of efficient and scalable transport solutions for media, IP and broadcast networks, today announced that the national telecommunications operator Antel in Uruguay has selected the company’s Nimbra solution for a nationwide Digital Terrestrial TV (DTT) network.

Antel, Uruguay’s government-owned telecommunications company is preparing to build a new national DTT network that will carry 19 channels to the country’s national TV broadcasters over an ISDB-T transmitter network. The network will cover the whole of Uruguay and will include 44 transmitters and 28 studios, while the project will be implemented in two phases during 2014 and 2015.

The challenges of introducing terrestrial infrastructures for digital television are considerable. Since the analogue switch-off in Uruguay is scheduled for early 2015 there is a need for rapid deployment that requires efficient use of network capacity, reliability, large-scale multicasts, multi-service capability for distribution of video and data and a dependable distribution of time to transmitters. Net Insight’s Nimbra platform provides a robust solution capable of meeting all of these challenges through a number of unique features, such as lossless routing, quality enhancements, and easy end-to-end service provisioning making it the industry’s leading media transport solution for digital TV distribution.

The order for the Nimbra solution was received in partnership with Taltech International, LLC, one of Net Insight’s premium partners and system integrators in Latin America. Taltech has also specified Net Insight’s solution in DTT developments in other regions in Latin America, such as Argentina.

“Latin America remains a focus for Net Insight as the region continues the shift to digital television networks,” says Fredrik Tumegård, CEO at Net Insight. “Antel selected the Nimbra solution for its high quality and overall performance over MPLS. With Taltech as our partner, Antel can look forward to a highly flexible DTT build out, safe in the knowledge that the network will deliver the level of quality of service (QoS) its customers expect and the ability to quickly and easily scale up the network whenever needed.”
