Named to CDP Global Leaders Report A List, S&P 500 Leaders for Corporate Action on Climate Change, and the Dow Jones Sustainability Index North America

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – October 22, 2014 – Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:AKAM, news, filings), the leading provider of cloud services for delivering, optimizing and securing online content and business applications, has been named to three prestigious lists in recognition of its sustainability initiatives, including The A List: The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) Climate Performance Leadership Index (CPLI) for 2014.

This is the first year Akamai was included on the CDP’s CPLI, which presents 187 listed companies identified as demonstrating a superior approach to climate change mitigation. Of the nearly 2,000 organizations assessed, Akamai was one of 187 companies that received an “A” rating for its efforts.

Climate performance leaders of The A List index are investing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and collectively have reduced their total (absolute) emissions by 33 million metric tons in the past reporting year, while also achieving impressive financial results.

“Global greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise and we face steep financial risk if we do not mitigate them,” said Paul Simpson, chief executive officer of CDP. “The business case for action to mitigate climate change has never been stronger or more urgent. We congratulate those businesses that achieved a position on The A List: The CDP Climate Performance Leadership Index. These companies are responding to market demand for environmental accountability and are making progress towards sustainable economies.”

Akamai was also recently honored as a leader among S&P 500 companies in the CDP S&P 500 Climate Change Report 2014 for its actions to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate the business risks of climate change, and was named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index North America for the second year in a row as the result of its performance on the annual RobecoSAM Corporate Sustainability Assessment.

“Akamai’s inclusion in these notable lists is the result of our substantial commitment to reducing the energy and carbon impacts of our global network operations,” said Nicole Peill-Moelter, senior director of corporate sustainability for Akamai. “It is an honor to be named among our peers and customers as we continue our efforts to reduce carbon emissions and minimize our impact on the environment.”

This is the first year that Akamai achieved a position on CDP’s S&P 500 CPLI. The annual index spotlights companies listed on the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index that have demonstrated a commitment to managing climate change by integrating it into their business strategy and taking actionable steps to lessen climate-related risk. More than 750 investors representing over $92 trillion in assets subscribe to CDP’s climate change program. The program facilitates corporate management and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions and climate-related risks and opportunities.

The Dow Jones Sustainability™ Indices are maintained collaboratively by S&P Dow Jones Indices and RobecoSAM. Companies are selected for the indices based on a comprehensive assessment of long-term economic, environmental and social criteria that account for general as well as industry-specific sustainability trends. Only firms that lead their industries based on this assessment are included in the indices. This year, a record 830 companies participated in the RobecoSAM Corporate Sustainability Assessment. In addition, 983 companies were assessed based on publicly available information. This was the second year in a row Akamai was invited to participate in the assessment.

The A List: CDP Climate Performance Leadership Index 2014, along with the climate disclosures of all companies publicly taking part in CDP’s climate change program this year, is available on CDP’s website.
