Net Insight Launches 8K Solution at IBC 2014

Company’s Media Switch Routers (MSRs) enable transport of 8K UHDTV signals over IP infrastructure

STOCKHOLM – Net Insight, a leading developer of efficient and scalable transport solutions for media, IP and broadcast networks, today announces it will debut its 8K media transport solution at IBC 2014, which takes place September 12-16 in Amsterdam.

Today’s service provider infrastructures, which are based on one-gigabit Ethernet (GE) and 10GE connections, limit broadcasters to non-linear workflows and file-based distribution, effectively excluding them from live ultra high-definition contribution. Net Insight has previously illustrated how broadcasters can begin migrating to 4K ultra high-definition (UHD) transport over commonly available 1GE and 10GE connections using the company’s Nimbra 600 MSR series and JPEG2000. With wider adoption of 4K, broadcasters are now switching their attention to 8K, as they seek to bring more value-added services and higher quality content to customers. But in order to meet the demands of customers, they need to be able to transport live UHD content in a cost-efficient way.

At IBC 2104, Net Insight will demonstrate how the company’s Nimbra solution enables 8K signals to be split up and sent over multiple links, such as GE links, offering broadcasters and service providers the opportunity to transport UHD content without the need to upgrade infrastructure, drastically saving them time and money.

Net Insight will also highlight its solution’s market-leading quality and lossless compression, in addition to its completely hitless 1+1 protection switching, which ensures perfect video delivery, even in the event of network or equipment failure.

At IBC 2007, Net Insight pioneered and demonstrated the worlds’ first multicast of uncompressed 4K video streams over a public transport network, which was honored with a “Best of IBC 2007” award.

“Net Insight continues to provide innovative solutions meeting service providers and broadcasters current and future needs,” says Martin Karlsson, vice president product portfolio at Net Insight. “By the end of 2014, Net Insight will not only be able to deliver 8K transport to the broadcast community, but do it in a cost-effective manner over existing IP infrastructure avoiding costly rip-and-replace implementations.”

To discuss how broadcasters and service providers can efficiently transport both 4K and 8K UHD media content, as well as find out more about how the company’s solutions enhance QoS, improve efficiency and optimize networks, visit the company’s stand at IBC 2014 (#1.B40).
