ADTRAN Achieves 400% Increase in EMEA-Based Broadband VDSL Shipments as Growth Continues

Global broadband solutions leader experiences accelerated EMEA growth; expands management team

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Sep. 4, 2014– ADTRAN®, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADTN, news, filings), a leading provider of next-generation networking solutions, has quintupled its VDSL port shipments in EMEA over the last 18 months following increased demand for its widely acclaimed vectoring capabilities. This traction comes as Dr. Eduard Scheiterer is promoted to senior vice president and managing director for international markets, who will lead ADTRAN’s global market expansion, underscoring the significance of international markets to ADTRAN’s global growth strategy.

“Over the past two years, ADTRAN has achieved exceptional growth in its EMEA-based business,” said Tom Stanton, chairman and CEO of ADTRAN. “Service providers across EMEA and the rest of our international markets are continuing to see premium broadband services as an integral component of their future opportunities.”

Continuing its strong growth trajectory, ADTRAN is investing in its global solutions portfolio to provide the necessary innovations to move the marketplace into the next generation of broadband access and networking solutions. According to Dr. Scheiterer, “our strategy is to continue engagement with new and existing customers around their next-generation access requirements with a view towards enhancing their vectoring capabilities as well as future gigabit broadband options.”

ADTRAN’s recently introduced Frequency Division Vectoring (FDV) technology enables carriers across EMEA to significantly broaden their G.fast addressable market in the region. By enabling both G.fast and VDSL2 vectoring to better coexist by working in tandem across a single subscriber line in the service provider’s network, service providers are able to preserve investments in their Fiber-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) infrastructure. FDV doubles data rates and increases the reach of intermediate-rate services – between 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps – which allows for delivery of cost-effective premium broadband to 80% more subscribers.

“In a short period of time, ADTRAN has risen to become a leader in Europe’s broadband market,” said Roland Montagne, principal analyst at IDATE. “With the industry’s shift toward increasing broadband speed requirements coupled with ADTRAN’s commitment to innovation as evidenced with FDV, the groundwork has been laid for them to remain a worthy competitor for the foreseeable future.”

In addition to ADTRAN’s broadband access success, the company has started to gain momentum in the EMEA market within the enterprise segment. This enterprise market growth is driven by the company’s industry-leading IP Business Gateways, Multi-Service Fiber Access Gateways, as well as its innovative virtual wireless LAN and ProCloud Wi-Fi offerings. These solutions are proving to be key enabling technologies for enterprise customers demanding a universal networking platform to connect any service, on any device, over any network.
