Telehouse/KDDI Builds Two New Telehouse Data Centres in Tokyo and Osaka

Telehouse/KDDI invests in a further 20MW of high power density colocation space

TOKYO, August 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ —

Telehouse International Corporation, one of the largest global data centre owner operators, announced today that it will invest £164 million (¥28 billion) in building two new data centres, “Telehouse Osaka 2” and “Telehouse Tokyo Tama 3”. The new data centres will open for business in August 2015 and February 2016. These additional facilities will take the total amount of global Telehouse data centre space to 371,000sqm at 45 data centres across 13 countries, in 24 major cities.

Both facilities will offer high-density colocation and are being built to meet the growing demand for housing private enterprise clouds alongside public cloud service providers, online and media content companies in Japan. The facilities are designed to Tier 3+ data standards in redundancy and uptime and are being built to be resistant to earthquakes by using a long-period absorption structure, reflecting the high quality of Telehouse specifications globally. In addition, these facilities will further enhance KDDI’s ability to provide integrated solutions through direct access to the KDDI global network from Telehouse data centres.

TELEHOUSE Osaka 2, in the centre of Osaka city, will offer 700 racks of tenancy space with up to 30kVA (designed) per rack. The technical space and operations rooms will be situated above the second floor, avoiding the potential risk of flooding. Osaka 2 can also be used as a disaster recovery and back-up site for Tokyo data centres.

TELEHOUSE Tokyo Tama 3 will be located on the existing Tama data centre campus, 30km from the Tokyo city centre. The five storey building will offer 1,300 racks of net technical space with up to 42kVA (designed) per rack – the highest[1] in Japan, and, once filled, a PUE of 1.31 making it one of the most energy efficient data centres in Japan.

Commenting on the new data centres, Michelle Reid, Sales and Marketing Director said, “As we see more and more international companies come to us for global deployments, these two new data centres will enhance our ability to answer their needs, enabling growth in this new economic era.”
