CenturyLink opens second data center in Toronto market

Tier III-certified facility built to support 5 megawatts of IT load, 100,000 square feet of raised floor

August 27, 2014MONROE, La. CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE:CTL, news, filings) today announced the grand opening of its new data center in the greater Toronto area. Designed to serve growing demand for access to secure colocation, managed hosting and cloud services, the data center is CenturyLink’s second in the Toronto region and fourth in Canada.

The new data center, known as TR3, is built to support up to 5 megawatts of IT load and 100,000 square feet of raised floor space. Located in Markham, the new facility has received Uptime Institute’s Tier III Certification of Constructed Facility and Tier III Certification of Design Documents.

“Today’s dynamic business environments require businesses to partner with an agile data center provider that offers reliable, secure IT services and outstanding support,” said Ash Mathur, regional vice president and country manager for CenturyLink Technology Solutions’ Canadian operations. “Businesses that operate in Canada partner with CenturyLink because we help them succeed by understanding and addressing their specific technology needs, as well as ensuring the continuity of mission-critical business applications.”

CenturyLink has a longstanding hosting presence in Toronto, where it serves consumer brands, financial services and other clients. The new facility brings CenturyLink’s total Toronto data center footprint to more than 11 megawatts of IT load and approximately 185,000 square feet of raised floor space.

“CenturyLink’s Toronto data centers not only support local businesses but also the company’s growing base of international clients that require in-Canada hosting delivery,” said Mark Schrutt, director, services and enterprise applications, at global analyst firm IDC. “CenturyLink’s hosting solutions are enterprise grade, secure and delivered from a portfolio of solid, multiuse and globally diversified data centers that provide its clients the flexibility of distributing workloads between traditional hosting and public and private Infrastructure-as-a-Service environments.”
