GLOBENET SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH ALLIED FIBER FOLLOWING READY FOR SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT OF SOUTHEAST FLORIDA SEGMENT

Leading submarine cable operator and wholesale provider of data network services to utilize Allied Fiber’s national, open access, integrated network-neutral colocation and dark fiber superstructure

NEW YORK, NY, MIAMI, FL, AND JACKSONVILLE, FL – July 10, 2014 –Allied Fiber, the United States’ first open access, integrated, network-neutral colocation and dark fiber superstructure, today announces that GlobeNet, the leading International fiber optic submarine system operator and wholesale provider of Latin American data network services, has signed a 20-year agreement for dark fiber, as well as neutral colocation and interconnection services.

GlobeNet provides highly secure and reliable, low latency data services to global carriers and service providers over a dual ring-protected fiber-optic submarine cable system serving North and South America. As part of this agreement, GlobeNet gains access to open interconnection with all other network operators that enter the Allied Fiber colocation facilities, as well as added route path and interconnection point diversity that leads to increased resiliency and capillarity resulting in better services and new business opportunities.

“This agreement with GlobeNet is important for many reasons,” states Hunter Newby, CEO of Allied Fiber. “The response to and adoption of Allied Fiber in the market is incredibly encouraging for our collective future, and further validates the immediate need for a national, open access, integrated network-neutral colocation and dark fiber superstructure in the United States.”

Allied Fiber’s physical layer open access interconnection facilities that integrate network-neutral colocation and dark fiber solve significant business challenges that network operators in the U.S. have faced for decades. These challenges include a lack of control, inefficient design for lateral splicing, a lack of neutrality within long haul colocation facilities, technological obsolescence of legacy fiber and a lack of diversity in path routing and physical interconnection points for content distribution. These are the challenges that Allied Fiber helps networks overcome. Among the many other benefits the Allied Fiber system affords its customers, GlobeNet’s primary motivation to utilize the Allied Fiber system was specifically to address and improve upon the control of its own network.

This announcement comes just weeks after Allied Fiber announced the Florida segment of its Southeast route was officially Ready for Service (RFS). The segment covers more than 360 miles throughout the State of Florida and was built specifically to serve network operators of all types including, national, regional and metro carriers, as well as submarine cable networks such as GlobeNet.

“We are very pleased to have entered into this agreement with Allied Fiber!” said Erick W. Contag, CEO of GlobeNet.  “By seamlessly integrating Allied Fiber’s network and colocation facilities to our own, we can immediately secure additional leading edge communications services to our Global customers for years to come.”  “The addition of a new fiber route further improves GlobeNet’s meshed terrestrial backhaul network in the State of Florida and facilitates diverse points of interconnection with our customers” adds Luiz Mario Alonso, GlobeNet’s Director of Engineering and Operations.
