Frontier Communications’ Summer Interns Volunteer for United Way’s Annual Day of Action

STAMFORD, Conn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– On Wednesday, June 11, summer interns at Frontier Communications’ corporate headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut put away their laptops, put “out of office” messages on their phones and set out to make the Stamford Museum & Nature Center at 39 Scofieldtown Road an even more beautiful and welcoming destination as part of the United Way’s Annual Day of Action.

Their assignment was a landscaping project at the Wheels in the Woods Picnic area, a popular site at the Nature Center. The team planted native shrubs along the perimeters of the picnic area and spread piles of woodchips in the planted areas to control weeds, and then spread stone dust on the picnic area surface. Nearly eight hours after they started, the interns looked with pride upon a job well done.

For many years, Frontier employees and interns have participated in a variety of volunteer projects that benefit the Stamford area, living a company Value to “Be active in the community.”

In the last few years, the United Way Day of Action has become a favorite volunteer activity. “It is an important part of our corporate culture and one of many such activities across our 27-state footprint,” said Dan McCarthy, President and Chief Operating Officer of Frontier and a member of the Board of Trustees of Sacred Heart University and the Western Connecticut Health Network Corporate Advisory Council. Jim Oddo, Vice President of Talent Acquisition & Development added, “Frontier’s summer interns look forward to this event and employees round out the group. We have no difficulty filling volunteer spots. It’s a great team builder that benefits all involved.”

“Frontier employees have consistently participated in fundraising drives and other events important to United Way campaigns and the community we serve. The company and its employees embody the spirit of corporate philanthropy and we’re proud to have them as a partner,” said Kim Morgan, CEO of the United Way of Western Connecticut.
