Interxion’s City of London data centre campus becomes first location outside of Docklands to host a LINX core node, reinforcing its position as central London’s most densely connected data centre

LONDON, UK – 12 MAY 2014INTERXION HOLDING NV (NYSE:INXN, news), a leading European provider of cloud- and carrier-neutral colocation data centre services, today announced that its growing City of London campus will become the first data centre outside of the Docklands to host one of the London Internet Exchange’s (LINX) core nodes.

LINX is one of the global leaders of Internet Exchange Points (IXP). With over 510 members connecting from over 60 different countries worldwide, LINX enables members to have access to direct routes from a large number of different international peering partners. Using LINX allows a reliable exchange of traffic with increased routing control and improved performance.

LINX have added a core switch to the edge node it currently has at Interxion’s London data centre campus, meaning it now becomes a core plus edge site for the Internet Exchange. A move that is a testament to the City of London’s growing dominance not just in finance and technology but now in connectivity too. This announcements further reinforces Interxion’s position as a leading provider of connectivity solutions – in the past two years, its London Campus has doubled its carrier capacity and continues to attract connectivity providers from across the globe.

Diversity of location was a key factor in LINX’s decision to upgrade its equipment in Interxion’s London campus. As a result, this will give LINX future capacity for continued growth as well as that of its membership. Members will also benefit from more efficient connectivity, as traffic no longer needs to be routed through other core nodes in the Docklands.

“Since our expansion to Interxion in 2008 we have seen significant growth at the site and it’s growing importance as part of our network. By moving part of the LINX core to Interxion we will be able to continue to provide best-in-class service to our members” commented Richard Petrie, CTO at LINX.

Mike Hollands, Director of Connectivity at Interxion added: “LINX’s decision to move its core node to our London Campus is testament to the fact that our City of London site is now recognised as central London’s connectivity hub. As more and more technologies and applications move online and into the cloud, connectivity is playing an ever increasingly role in ensuring the seamless delivery of these products and services. The addition of the LINX core node reinforces our focus on providing the key connectivity solutions to help our diverse customer communities grow.”
