NTT, Alcatel-Lucent and Fujitsu demonstrate Virtual Network Platform as a Service which has just been approved as a Proof of Concept

This is a summary of a press release issued on by NTT, Alcatel-Lucent and Fujitsu

Japan, May 02, 2014

NTT (the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation), Alcatel-Lucent and Fujitsu are to make a proof-of-concept demonstration of the Virtual Network Platform-as-a –service (VNPaaS) technology to the ETSI NFV ISG body in Japan.

The demonstration, one of the outcomes from the collaborative study on NFV application, will be presented at the Bankoku Shinryokan Resort MICE Facility in Okinawa on May 14, 2014.

As seen in the activities of ETSI NFV ISG, which are designed to take advantage of virtualization technologies in telecoms, more and more traditional network functions are being realized through software on general-purpose hardware. The progress of Network Functions Virtualization enables more flexible and faster development and configuration changes of the network.

However, virtualizing large-scale telecom systems increases the complexity of service applications because of the increase in the number of functions to be realized. NTT, Alcatel-Lucent Japan, and Fujitsu solve this problem by developing server architecture as a platform of telecom networks with reliability, scalability, and management that network systems require.
