Huawei Unveils the Industry’s First Zero-Touch Local Maintenance Networking Devices— Huawei Launches Next-Generation Agile Branch Solution

[Beijing, China, May 28, 2014]: Huawei, a leading global Information and Communications Technology (ICT) solutions provider, launched the world’s first service and experience-centric, Agile Branch Solution and Agile Gateway series at the Huawei Networking Congress 2014 (HNC) in Beijing on May 25.The solution enables fast service deployment and simplified operation and maintenance, as well as integration with value-added trends such as Big Data, Mobile Internet, and the Internet of Things (IoT). As a key component of Huawei’s agile network strategies and architecture, the Agile Branch Solution is one of the company’s key innovations for 2014. It addresses a series of problems in branch network deployment, operation, and maintenance. It is also the first agile switch to feature zero-touch local maintenance on branch networks.

Enterprise branch network is constantly evolving. Driven by advances in 4G technologies and the increasing use of smart terminals, remote workers increasingly demand fast, reliable wireless broadband. When IP-based industry sensors connect to the Internet, it enables the Internet of Things (IoT). The enterprise branch, the mobile branch and the IoT branch have now become the three major types of branch networks. Mobile and the IoT branches face many challenges, including complex services, slow deployment, and difficulties in locating faults. To address these challenges, Huawei has launched the industry’s first Agile Branch Solution in two layers: the Agile Controller and the Agile Gateway.

With the launch of the Agile Branch Solution, Huawei becomes the first vendor in the ICT industry to integrate Information Technologies (IT) and Communications Technologies (CT) within the branch gateway through virtualization and implementation of in-depth resource sharing. In addition to supporting traditional CT routing, switching, and voice functions, the gateway also supports the loading of IT applications. As such, one device is able to provide the capabilities equivalent to an ICT branch. The solution is also the first in the industry to be developed based on Software Defined Network (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) converged infrastructure, it is able to provide IT and CT resources for centralized control and maintenance, allowing users to remotely define the logical networking structure of a branch office. In addition, it manages ICT resources on the branch agile gateway during the entire lifecycle and provides centralized control for IT and CT resources, further accelerating service deployment. The solution also features openness in the network and application layers to support third-party integration in Huawei’s Agile Branch Solution, further boosting innovative industry solutions and delivering economic benefit to enterprises.

“The Huawei Agile Branch Solution will completely change the form and structure of traditional devices,” said Xianyin Li, General Manager of router products for Huawei’s Enterprise Network Product Line. “This solution changes the network construction and operation models of branches, thereby producing new business models.”

The Agile Branch Solution features three technical innovations:

1. One-click service deployment: one-click device discovery, centralized delivery of applications and service orchestration.

2. Zero-touch local maintenance: zero-delay fault detection, zero-error fault location, and zero-wait fault recovery.

3. Open and additional value-add: open applications and networks. The Agile Branch Solution reduces service deployment and O&M workload on enterprise branches. It reduces enterprise total cost of ownership (TCO) and enables enterprises to develop new value-add services.

“Bus Online operates more than ten thousand buses, increasing complexity of service deployment and operation and maintenance (O&M),” said Yongliang Xie, CEO of Bus Online. “Huawei’s Agile Branch Solution implements remote service deployment and centralized management for all of our buses, simplifying our O&M. The ICT convergence design of Huawei’s gateway solution addresses the problem of carrying traditional devices on buses. Moreover, Huawei also provides the user location functionality, which enables precision marketing.”
