Windstream reduces cloud provisioning time, improves process with new rapid automation tool

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.— Windstream Hosted Solutions, part of Windstream (NYSE:WIN, news, filings) and one of the nation’s premier providers of enterprise-class managed hosted solutions, today announced that it has incorporated a new system that reduces customized cloud provisioning time from days to hours.

This new cloud automation system supports end-to-end on-demand provisioning in the Windstream Hosted Solutions public cloud. While most cloud providers have automated environments available for canned, pre-packaged service offerings, Windstream’s cloud automation tool allows automated deployment for customized solutions designed to meet the specific needs of its enterprise customers.

“This new automation solution creates a self-contained enterprise virtual data center (EVDC) unique to each customer,” said Chris Nicolini, Windstream’s senior vice president of data center operations. “Every EVDC is configured with its own operating systems, virtual machines and network configuration to meet our customers’ distinct specifications, including features such as monitoring and backups.”

The new system provides automatic orchestration that allows for rapid provisioning without compromising customized solution designs. This automation tool was adopted as an alternative to the preconfigured network containers that many other providers use, options that often do not address customer-specific needs.

“Enterprises require true automation of IT operations management in service provider cloud platforms,” said Melanie Posey, Research Vice President at IDC. “Windstream’s new cloud automation capability, combined with its high touch service model and ability to implement customized network and/or compute configurations for clients, creates real differentiation in the enterprise cloud solutions market.”

While the cloud environments are customized for each customer, the traditional implementation time has been significantly reduced from days to mere hours, allowing a tailor-made public cloud environment to be delivered to the customer within a single business day.

“Our customers wanted a solution that met their needs without having to wait days for implementation,” said Nicolini. “In response to this demand, we’ve adopted this automation solution to provide both benefits—customization and a quick turnaround.”

Although the process is automated, the “human touch” element is maintained throughout the process. With Windstream’s “smart solutions, personalized service” brand promise, a dedicated team of implementation managers and experienced engineers coordinate with customers throughout the solution design and provisioning process.

The cloud automation system, launched in February 2014, positions the company firmly in the orchestration forefront, serving as a solid foundation for future automation and additional portal enhancements for the customer.
