TSIC expands with Washington, D.C. data center – increasing high-performance connectivity to and from the greater Northern Virginia region

TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC) continues to expand its US presence and is meeting the growing demands of high-performance connectivity in the growing Northern Virginia market by connecting the EvoSwitch data center in Washington to its North American backbone.

The Northern Virginia region is a major growth area for content and application providers as well as global operators. This translates into an increased demand for high-performance connectivity. By adding the high-density colocation capabilities of the EvoSwitch WDC1 data center, TSIC is able to deliver greater connectivity and international reach to the region.

Ivo Pascucci, Regional Director Americas for TeliaSonera International Carrier, says, “We keep expanding our network because end-users keep demanding more. By adding the EvoSwitch facility in Washington, we further increase high-performance connectivity to and from the commercial centers in the region as well as the opportunity for locally-based content and service providers to do business with regional as well as international reach at the speed of fiber.”

The agreement will enable TSIC to deliver its portfolio of services via the EvoSwitch Manassas data center. This includes: IP, Ethernet, voice, mobile roaming and the next generation of IPX services. The two companies also work together in Europe, where TSIC has been providing high-capacity connectivity via EvoSwitch’s Amsterdam data center since 2008.

Eric Boonstra, President at EvoSwitch USA, adds, “We are very pleased to see TeliaSonera International Carrier connected and providing services to customers in both our US and European data centers. TSIC’s unique routes – coupled with a strong focus on mobile content providers, LTE operators and media companies – make them a great addition to our ecosystem.”

Ranked one of the top two global IP providers by Internet intelligence authority Renesys, TSIC owns and operates a 100G-enabled network connecting more than 200 pops around the world. This number continues to increase as a result of TSIC’s ongoing program of fiber expansion. On the heels of its North American expansion in November, the addition of a point of presence in Florida as well as the recent datacenter in North Virginia further strengthens its global backbone and upholds its commitment to providing reliable, always-on connectivity anywhere.
