Huawei Releases Industry Leading Multi-Band, Multi-Mode Small Cell Solution for Helping Operators Manage High-Volume Challenges

[Barcelona, Spain, February 28, 2014]: Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today released the world’s first multi-band, multi-mode outdoor micro small cell and the industry’s most integrated indoor pico small cell at Mobile World Congress 2014. The series of small cell products have been developed in order to help operators improve outdoor and indoor coverage and capacity and manage the challenges of high-volume and flow.

The rapid development of mobile broadband networks and increasing demands for an enhanced user experience creates both challenges and opportunities for operators. Under increasing pressure to expand networks, while maintaining quality of service, operators are now developing heterogeneous networks (HetNet). These expanded and flexible networks now often employ multi-band, multi-standard network construction techniques along with small cell deployment. The growing popularity of this approach is due to its ability to dramatically improve coverage and capacity.

Huawei’s multi-band, multi-mode small cell series was launched to meet these trends. Based on a “One Box, One Cable” design concept, it includes a highly integrated baseband, radio frequency unit, and a transmission antenna in one box. This approach means that only one box is required to provide the same capacity and functionality of multiple boxes. The new series of small cells also supports dynamic power sharing across different modes and band, and significantly reduces expenses to increase returns on investment.

The Huawei New Series Outdoor Micro Small Cell is suitable for dense urban areas where it can provide coverage improvement and capacity expansion. By using a LTE-only mode, the small cell can support carrier aggregation to effectively improve system capacity and user experience. It also supports a variety of transmission interfaces to meet a wide range of deployment scenarios.

Huawei’s new series of indoor pico small cells is adaptable to install for use in indoor areas to improve coverage and enable capacity expansion. With product features including small size, rich functionality, and plug-and-play features, the indoor pico small cell can easily support a variety of deployment scenarios. It can also be integrated with Huawei’s recently released open service platform, the Huawei Service Anchor. This provides various value-added and location based services such as accurate advertising and large data statistics, increasing the overall value and revenue-generation opportunities of the network.

Huawei’s multi-band multi-mode series of small cells also supports a variety of innovative business models. For example, Huawei’s “crowd-sourcing” model provides a more convenient solution for small cell solution development and deployment by inviting site space owners to be stakeholders in small cell network deployments.
