Cable & Wireless Communications’ Jamaica business, LIME, has won a contract to supply a new fixed line telecommunications system for one of the country’s largest hospitals.
LIME Jamaica won a competitive tender process and will supply a new PBX system to manage fixed line calls at the Falmouth Hospital. The new telephone system will be a significant upgrade that will increase the speed of communication between departments and help to improve patient care. The PBX will be supplied by Cisco Systems.
Regional Director of the Western Regional Health Authority, the Hospital’s oversight body, Dr. Ken-Garfield Douglas, said:
“We are expecting that this solution is going to improve the way we serve the public. The system will provide the public with greater opportunity to reach the hospital to enquire about its services and seek other important information. It will also provide a system of internal communication that we do not presently have.”
The Falmouth Hospital was opened in 1955 and is one of the key community health facilities in a district of Jamaica that is home to around 72,500 people. The Hospital offers minor surgery, basic laboratory services, obstetric and paediatric care, and is also equipped with a casualty department to handle emergencies.
This contract is the latest collaboration between LIME and Jamaica’s Ministry of Health. In 2012 LIME won a contract to upgrade mobile telecommunications services for the Ministry’s 3,000 staff.
