Cologix Declares New Data Center and Interconnect Hub in Downtown Montreal Open

January 14, 2014

Cologix’s seventh Montreal facility at 1155 University Street marks key milestone in their initiative to significantly expand Canadian footprint

Denver, Colorado and Montreal, Quebec – January  14, 2014 – Cologix™, a network neutral interconnection and data center company, today announced it has successfully commissioned Phase 1 of its 26,000 SQF expansion at 1155 University Street in downtown Montreal.  The data center is Cologix’s seventh in Montreal, and is a natural extension to the carrier hotel at 1250 Rene Levesque West located one half kilometer away.  A dedicated fiber ring will allow customers at either facility to interconnect directly with one another creating, in effect, a single Meet-Me-Room supporting interconnection from over 100,000 SQF of colocation space in the market.   At full capacity, Cologix’s MTL 7 at 1155 University Street will hold more than 450 cabinets.  The second and final phase of the build out will be complete in 2014.
Montreal is home to nearly four million residents, a gateway city for Internet traffic from Europe and home to the Montreal Internet Exchange (QIX).  “Our customers’ growth validates Montreal’s growing importance as a network hub in North America,” stated Grant van Rooyen, Chief Executive Officer, Cologix. “As the market leader, it is important to us that we facilitate that growth by delivering new network neutral data centers in the region.  We have done that by bringing this new facility to Montreal.”

“Cologix’s new site is a very important part of the supply chain for network providers like Videotron to grow,” explains Maxime Guévin, General Manager, Wholesale and Service carriers to Videotron Business Solutions. “With the current real estate situation, the construction of data centers in downtown Montreal is a real challenge, and the determination of Cologix to build downtown will be beneficial for the industry.”

For over 40 years, Syntax has been supporting customers across North America, implementing and deploying IT business systems.  As an Oracle Platinum Partner and IBM Premier Business Partner, Syntax establishes worry-free cloud computing solutions.  “We provide reliable and scalable offerings supporting 500 global customers,” explains Kenny Etinson, Syntax Vice President.  “Syntax’s new Data Center expansion in Cologix’s new 1155 University facility will provide the backbone required for additional computing, and networking scalability our growing Cloud Computing platform requires.”

Cologix is commemorating the opening of their new facility by hosting the 1st Annual “Connect Montreal” Telecom Networking Event, which will be held on January 28th at the McCord Museum in Downtown Montreal.  More information on the event can be found at www.dataconnectmontreal.com.

The expansion to 1155 University in Montreal is part of a broader plan to meet connectivity-sensitive demand with over 60,000 SQF of new network neutral data center space currently under construction by Cologix across Canada.  The next element in the expansion package will deliver in 1Q 2014 with the opening of Cologix’s new 15,000 SQF data center in downtown Vancouver at 1050 W. Pender Street.  That unique data center will be directly connected to Cologix’s 555 W. Hastings data center, resulting in a dramatic increase of highly connected colocation capacity in Western Canada.
