ADTRAN Expands ActivReach Ethernet Switch Portfolio Unleashing VoIP Deployments in Challenging Environments

Businesses can leverage existing voice wiring infrastructure to      implement Wi-Fi and unified communications services

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Jan. 27, 2014–      ADTRAN®,      Inc. (NASDAQ:ADTN, news, filings) today announced the release of its NetVanta®      1235P Ethernet Switch with ActivReach™—the latest addition to its      ActivReach Switch Portfolio. The NetVanta 1235P with ActivReach is      purpose-built to speed VoIP deployments, delivering 10/100 Mbps voice,      data and PoE over legacy voice-grade wiring. The new solution reduces      disruption, cost and network downtime. As a result, businesses, hosted      service providers and value-added resellers can quickly and easily      provide enhanced VoIP applications like unified communications and Wi-Fi.

Many businesses, regardless of their networking environment, are looking      to deploy bandwidth-rich business-class IP services, such as      high-definition voice and video communications, to enable a more      collaborative and productive environment. However, running new Ethernet      cabling is a cost barrier and construction nightmare, especially in aged      or historic buildings. ADTRAN’s ActivReach technology eliminates these      concerns by utilizing existing cabling—CAT5, CAT3 or legacy copper—for      immediate, cost-effective VoIP deployments. In addition, ActivReach      extends Ethernet reach up to 488 meters (1600 ft.), allowing networks      requiring long cable runs to deploy a single switch to serve a wider      service area. When compared to traditional technology that only reaches      100 meters and requires expensive repeaters to extend reach, ActivReach      provides significant savings in infrastructure costs and network      management resources.

ADTRAN’s expanded portfolio of ActivReach switches provides customers      increased flexibility to deploy the right switch for their unique      network needs—whether they need single application support or support      for a broad range of applications. The ActivReach portfolio includes the      NetVanta 1535P Gigabit Ethernet Switch for multiple applications,      including VoIP, wireless and Gigabit to the Desktop. The newest addition      to the ActivReach portfolio—the NetVanta 1235P—is specifically designed      for voice applications. Specific features and benefits of the NetVanta      1235P with ActivReach include:

  •         28 Ethernet ports with support for Layer 2/3-lite switching
  •         24 copper ports supporting both standard 10/100 and ActivReach        Ethernet technology
  •         Four Gigabit SFP uplink ports – two Standard SFP ports capable of 1        Gbps operation and two enhanced SFP ports capable of up to 2.5 Gbps        operation
  •         VoIP-ready with support for LLDP/LLDP-MED and voice VLANS
  •         Support for IEEE 802.3af PoE, Legacy PoE and PoE over ActivReach

“ADTRAN continues to expand its ActivReach Ethernet Switch portfolio in      order to meet the needs of businesses looking for an affordable path to      high-bandwidth voice and data services. The NetVanta 1235P is      purpose-built to enable advanced VoIP services while utilizing existing      infrastructure for ultimate simplicity in deploying a next-generation      network,” said Todd Lattanzi, director of product management for ADTRAN.      “This new solution in the ActivReach switch family demonstrates our      commitment and investment in this innovative technology. The NetVanta      1235P is one more way ADTRAN is enabling its customers to break down the      barriers to improving their voice and data networks.”
