Cementos Avellaneda Selects Level 3’s Network Solutions to Enhance Business Operations Reliability and Efficiency

Connectivity Between Key Facilities, In Addition To Network Management Services, Will Help Major Argentinian Cement Company Improve Operational Performance

Dec 10, 2013

BUENOS AIRES, Dec., 10, 2013 – Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NYSE:LVLT, news, filings) today announced it has signed an agreement with Cementos Avellaneda S.A., one of the largest cement companies in Argentina, which has entrusted Level 3 with the management of dedicated links between its headquarters and affiliate facilities in Argentina and Uruguay. Cementos Avellaneda will also use Level 3’s network management services to oversee these connections and improve the efficiency, reliability and security of its business operations applications for its employees working in diverse locations across these two countries.

Prior to working with Level 3, Cementos Avellanda had its entire operations system – essential for the delivery and invoicing of its products in Argentina and Uruguay – distributed with database replication across different facilities. Due to continued business growth, Cementos Avellaneda faced the challenge of centralizing its network resources and ensuring information is readily accessible across all of its facilities and remote teams.

Level 3 provides the right combination of network connectivity and services to ensure Cementos Avellanda’s employees have the high availability of access to information and critical business applications necessary to improve overall operational performance. In addition to providing network services, Level 3 also replicated all of Cementos Avellaneda’s current MPLS (multiprotocol label switching) links, implementing a secondary network to provide consistent application performance and ensuring 24/7 data availability.

“We are very pleased that Level 3 was able to quickly establish these new links to all of our affiliates and provide us with the network services we need to better serve our customers,” said Fernando Castarés, provisioning & IT director for Cementos Avellaneda. “We are already seeing significant improvements in application speed and our email systems, and believe these network enhancements will greatly improve our continued ability to grow our business.”

“Our advanced network solutions provide the efficiency, reliability and security necessary to ensure the peak performance of Cementos Avellaneda’s critical invoicing and delivery systems,” said Luis Piccolo, Level 3’s vice president of Sales.  “We are delighted to support Cementos Avellaneda’s business growth through our network connectivity and value-added solutions, helping them improve the essential operational excellence required to drive their business forward.”
