SRPC Medical Imaging Chooses FirstLight Fiber’s Metro Ethernet Service for Network Upgrade

Albany, NY October 3, 2013FirstLight Fiber (formerly known as Tech Valley Communications), a facilities-based telecommunications service provider operating fiber optic networks in Upstate New York and Northern New England with connectivity to Canada, announced today that SRPC Medical Imaging (Schenectady Radiologists, PC) has chosen FirstLight to provide its wide area network (WAN). This solution will enhance SRPC’s data transmission process between multiple imaging centers and radiologists’ offices. As a radiology practice operating to best meet the medical imaging needs of the surrounding community, upgrading the SRPC network with services provided by FirstLight has resulted in quicker data transmissions of digital images. SRPC is also experiencing significant time- and cost-savings, versus its previous copper-based solution.

With two free-standing imaging centers and locations in the local hospitals, SRPC sought a solution that would increase its network capacity and allow for easier upgrades in the future. It also required a provider that could easily enhance its internal infrastructure (workstations) by interconnecting to all offsite locations quickly and efficiently.

“Today’s medical community is fast-paced and relies on technology to ensure both timely and accurate results,” commented James Mooney, Administrator for SRPC Medical Imaging. “With FirstLight’s Ethernet service, provisioned over FirstLight’s own fiber optic network, SRPC is operating more efficiently. What used to take 15 minutes has now decreased to just two to three minutes. Allowing SRPC to do more readings, and the connectivity between our offices and external work stations is instantaneous, so our doctors can be anywhere and easily access the images they need.”

“Fiber-based solutions are definitely the right solution for healthcare, as companies like SRPC require rapid delivery of digital images and test results, along with a secure way to store this highly confidential information,” commented Patrick Coughlin, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing of FirstLight. “FirstLight’s Metro Ethernet service is the reliable, scalable solution SRPC needs to provide the best service for its patients, and the network will easily adapt as their bandwidth and technology requirements evolve.”

“Switching from copper to fiber-based services has saved us time and money, and as our data needs increase, our network is now at a point where it’s easily upgradable to higher bandwidth. Not to mention, the local, personalized and prompt service we have received from FirstLight has been exceptional,” concluded Mooney.

FirstLight provides a complete portfolio of secure, scalable, high reliability telecommunications solutions backed by a knowledgeable staff. FirstLight is experienced in serving the needs of the healthcare industry to support advanced telemedicine applications for multisite institutions, allowing its clients to realize fiscal efficiencies and improve the patient experience.

About SRPC Medical Imaging

Schenectady Radiologists, PC (SRPC Medical Imaging) has provided quality medical imaging services via their imaging centers in Niskayuna and Guilderland, New York, as well as at the local hospitals, since the 1970s. The physicians of SRPC are widely respected for their expertise and for putting patients first by providing the best technology in a comfortable setting. They were the first in the area to install an open MRI in a bright, sun-lit room designed to put patients at ease. Then they were first to offer TV in a high-field open MRI that significantly reduces anxiety for claustrophobic patients while accommodating larger patients. The SRPC team cares for their patients like they care for their own families…they provide them with the very best.
