Internap Honored on the 2013 InformationWeek 500 List of Top Technology Innovators Across the U.S.

Honor recognizes Internap’s Los Angeles data center for its advanced scalability, reliability and energy efficiency, along with its hybrid colocation, managed hosting and cloud services

ATLANTA – September 10, 2013 ─ Internap Network Services Corporation (NASDAQ:INAP, news, filings), a provider of high-performance hosting services, today announced that it is included in the 2013 InformationWeek 500 – a list of the top technology innovators in the U.S. Internap was honored for the high-performance design of its Los Angeles data center, which provides advanced scalability, reliability and sustainability, as well as hybridized colocation, managed hosting and cloud services that can be mixed and matched to maximize application performance and meet specific business requirements.

This is the third consecutive year Internap has received this top honor – named in 2012 for sustainability practices at its Santa Clara, Calif. data center and in 2011 for its scalable, high-density power solution, which provides a cost-effective way for colocation customers to “upgrade in place” without being required to buy more footprint.

“The theme of this year’s InformationWeek 500 is digital business. It’s a movement rooted in data analytics, mobile computing, social networking and other customer‐focused technologies that are turning companies and industries on their ear,” said InformationWeek Editor-in-Chief Rob Preston. “Every enterprise is now a digital business — or needs to become one fast. The organizations in our ranking are leading the way.”

Opened last fall, Internap’s Los Angeles data center provides organizations with its high-performance colocation, managed hosting and cloud services, powered by global, route-optimized IP connectivity and Content Delivery Network services. Totaling 55,000 net-sellable square feet, the facility serves organizations across a range of industries that are driving innovation in digital business, including media and entertainment, gaming, technology and financial services – all of whom rely on fast, reliable, low-latency delivery of business-critical applications and content. The data center innovations that led to this achievement include:

  • “Cloudy Colo” Capabilities: Unique among service providers, Internap’s universal customer portal delivers single pane of glass management of all Internap services, including colocation, managed hosting and cloud. Colocation customers benefit from cloud-like granular visibility and remote management of the colocation environment, increasing control while lowering costly visits to the data center or the use of remote hands services.
  • Scalable, High-density Power: Modular UPS (uninterruptible power supply) units and high-efficiency cooling solutions enable power configurations of up to 18kW per rack, among the highest in the industry. Colocation customers can grow consumption “in place” without having to pay for additional space.
  • Concurrent Maintainability: More than just N+1, the facility is designed for the concurrent maintainability of generators, UPSs and cooling modules to maximize resiliency and uptime and significantly reduce the risk of failure for customer systems and applications.

The facility also demonstrates Internap’s commitment to building sustainable, environmentally-conscious data centers wherever possible and has raised the bar for green design and operations standards within the industry. Designed from the ground up for maximum energy efficiency, the data center has already achieved LEED Gold and Green Globes™ certifications based on its use of outside air economizers to more efficiently cool the building while reducing power costs, renewable energy sources, water conservation techniques and existing building materials, among other contributing factors.

“We are honored to be recognized in the InformationWeek 500 list for the third consecutive year – this time for the significant achievements at our Los Angeles data center,” said Mike Higgins, senior vice president of data center services at Internap. “The LA facility represents Internap’s commitment to building the most flexible, scalable and energy-efficient data centers that provide hybridized IT infrastructure designed to efficiently meet customers’ complete range of application needs.”
