Underscores Role of Investment and Innovation In Accomplishing Critical Missions

This morning (Aug. 19), Verizon addressed the attendees of APCO 2013.
The nearly 3,000 public safety communications professionals in attendance heard Verizon’s Don Brittingham, vice president of public safety policy, discuss how investment and innovation can be harnessed to solve society’s biggest challenges and unlock the transformative value of technology.
Brittingham shared the following examples of how Verizon is making the investment today to create stronger, safer communities tomorrow.
- Verizon and Motorola Solutions announced the launch of the VML 700, a vehicle-based modem for public safety designed to operate on the Verizon 4G LTE wireless network and private LTE-based public safety broadband networks. This custom-built public safety solution will enable first responders and emergency personnel to better respond to emergencies and routine activities by tapping into the power of mobile broadband. Equally as important, since this solution is built to be forward compatible with FirstNet, it will enable public safety agencies to update their infrastructure today with confidence that it will meet their needs in the future.
- Recognizing that all first responders need to be able to communicate in times of emergency over managed, interoperable, and dedicated facilities, Verizon is working closely with its industry peers and government to support the efforts of FirstNet and the national public safety broadband network that will work with existing LTE networks.
Doing more with less to meet increasingly complex objectives opens the door for innovative thinking and the application of technology to achieve success and solve challenges,” said Brittingham. “Technology and innovation fill the void of limited budgets and tight staffing to inspire organizations to think of new ways to accomplish critical missions.”
