Optica enters the final stages of construction for Xcelerate Broadband’s 205 mile FTTH network
Omaha, Neb June 12, 2013 – Optica Network Technologies (Optica), a leading provider of advanced broadband network deployments, is nearing the completion of Phase 1 construction for Xcelerate Broadband’s (formerly Bulldog Cable) Fiber-to-the-Home Network. Phase 1 Construction of the network began April 3rd 2013 and is on schedule to be completed in early August.
Xcelerate Broadband chose Optica to attain their goal of offering advanced triple play offerings to several communities in Baldwin, Putnam, and Hancock counties in Georgia. In September 2012, Optica was selected to engineer and design this advanced FTTH network due to their expertise in designing and constructing some of the leading networks in the US, including a prior FTTH build in Cambridge, NE.
“It has always been our goal to provide our customer the very best in communication technology” stated Mark Wilson, President of Xcelerate Broadband. “In order to continue to help our community grow, a fiber-to-the-home network was needed to provide the types and levels of services needed. ” Xcelerate Broadband will be offering up to 1 Gig Symmetrical speeds, putting it on par with some of the fastest available in the US. Along with high-speed internet, Xcelerate will also be offering IPTV and home phone services. “It’s exciting to be involved in a project of this magnitude,” stated Jesse Gibson, Project Manager for Optica. “FTTH networks have the ability to transform communities, and this network will place the Lake Sinclair communities on the leading edge of communication technology.”
Optica has designed and engineered over 200 miles of fiber, and project managed the construction to the homes, businesses, and a state-of-the-art head end facility. Optica also leveraged their strong consulting background to help form Xcelerate’s business plan and administer federal grants such as American Recovery and Restoration Act BIP program. “Optica has placed us in a position to achieve our goal of offering the best in communication services to our customers,” stated Wilson. “Without their expertise and guidance, our project would still be far from accomplished.” Phase 1 Construction is currently underway with a planned in-service date of August of this year. Phase 2 and 3 construction on the network is scheduled to be finished in December 2013.
