SUMMIT, NJ & DUBLIN, IRELAND – MAY 13, 2013 – Hibernia Networks,a provider of global capacity services, announces its 10-year anniversary as a high capacity and resilient connectivity network provider.  To celebrate this major milestone, Hibernia Networks’ executive team is onsite at International Telecoms Week (ITW) 2013 and will be available to meet with clients and partners to discuss customized solutions utilizing Hibernia’s award-winning network services. Hibernia Networks was founded in 2003, by Ken Peterson through the purchase of a transatlantic submarine cable from 360networks.

Over the past decade, Hibernia has grown into a network with 172 unique Points of Presence (PoPs) in 24 countries and across 27,000 kilometers of fiber. Hibernia Networks serves wholesale, enterprise, financial and media customers with unparalleled support, flexibility and service. Hibernia caters to specific market needs by delivering top-level service backed by a secure, diverse network. Customers have grown to rely on Hibernia to provide the latest network technologies in many regions around the globe.

“It is our pleasure to celebrate Hibernia’s 10th anniversary,” states Ken Peterson, CEO of Columbia Corporate Ventures. “Our history is deeply rooted in establishing the necessary network connections our clients demand. As we look to the next ten years, our philosophy will remain the same, to offer the best service that is built on our robust network – all while maintaining the utmost level of security.”

“Hibernia’s scope of services has evolved over the years to create and deploy flexible and next-generation solutions for our customers,” continues Bjarni Thorvardarson, CEO of Hibernia Networks. “Through this evolution, we have honed in on providing core services to the wholesale, financial and media communities. With this focus, we are able to unite hundreds of key interconnectivity points around the world and continue to grow strategically in markets we see have opportunities for strong success.”

As an industry leader, Hibernia has been first to the market with technologies that advance their network capabilities. Hibernia completed the first 100 Gbps transatlantic trial on cable from Nova Scotia to England, and continues to advance its low latency routes for its financial customers.

Other notable Hibernia achievements include:

  • First to offer native 40 Gbps across the Atlantic for commercial use
  • First to offer 40 Gbps over a subsea span between US and Canada
  • First to offer 10 Gbps Ethernet LAN-PHY capacity across the Atlantic
  • Completion of the deployment of Project Kelvin, a contract awarded by the European Union, bringing direct international connectivity into the northwest region of Ireland as well as a fiber-rich fiber ring into 12 cities in Northern Ireland and connecting them via a new submarine link to North America and Europe

Hibernia’s wholesale services provide secure and diverse dedicated Ethernet, DTM and optical-level services, including GigE, 10G and LanPhy wavelengths and traditional SONET/SDH services. In addition, its purpose-built, fiber-based network serving the financial services community unites hundreds of global banks and financial exchanges with low latency connectivity. The company also expanded its network into Asia in 2011 to support growing demand from financial, wholesale and enterprise communities.

Through the acquisitions of MediaXstream and of the Media Connect assets from TeliaSonera, Hibernia’s media network is one of the largest and most extensive 100% QoS, fiber-based DTM Video Transport Networks in the world. Hibernia’s media services are dedicated to flawless delivery of video signals over fiber, supporting media companies across the globe with over 150 media connection points.

With award-winning services, Hibernia has been recognized over the years for its technological leadership.  Hibernia’s low latency financial network has been recognized three years in a row as one of TMCNet’s Communications Solutions Product of the Year Award Winners.

In addition, in 2009 the company’s CEO, Bjarni K. Thorvardarson, was awarded a Golden Bridges Award for promoting partnerships between North America and Ireland through its new, fiber optic cable build development, entitled “Project Kelvin”.
