AT&T Supports Texas Disaster Relief Fund with $50,000 Contribution and Launches Text Donation Campaign to Benefit West Community

AT&T Text-to-Donate Option Provides Additional Ways to Support Relief, Recovery

Austin, Texas, April 25, 2013

As part of its support for the victims and their families following the tragic events in West, Texas, AT&T* announced today a $50,000 contribution to the Texas Disaster Relief Fund to support relief and recovery efforts in the city of West.

In addition, AT&T customers who want to support the Texas Disaster Relief Fund can text TEXAS to 80108 to give $10. The donation will be charged on their monthly AT&T bill.  AT&T, in conjunction with the non-profit mGive Foundation established the text-to-donate option for wireless customers who want a simple, easy and convenient way to provide financial support to the West, Texas, victims.

“Americans are stepping up in tremendous ways to support the people of West, Texas,” said Gov. Rick Perry. “AT&T’s significant contribution to the Texas Disaster Relief Fund will go a long way toward helping our neighbors recover. Out of tragedy, we see shining examples of the generosity and greatness of the people of our state.”

“Texas is a big state, but when tragedy strikes as it did in West last week, not only does our state pull together but Americans come together to assist our communities in need. AT&T is proud to step up and support relief and recovery efforts with a $50,000 donation to the Texas Disaster Relief Fund,” said Dave Nichols, president, AT&T Texas. “And, by enabling our customers to text a contribution from their mobile device, we hope more Americans will open their hearts and their wallets to support the people of West. We appreciate the leadership of Gov. Rick Perry and the work of the Texas Disaster Relief Fund in bringing resources to bear in West.  AT&T is honored to be part of the effort to ensure that all the victims of last week’s disaster and their families will be cared for.”

AT&T Texas continues to support West in a number of ways since the explosion.    Dallas-area AT&T employees held a blood drive on April 22 at One AT&T in Dallas to benefit victims of the explosion.  The company has also extended some of its wireless assets to the community to assist with communication, including deployment of a COW (Cell on Wheels) and handsets for first responders, plus providing charging stations in the area.
