eLynx Technologies Taps Akamai for SaaS Optimization

Web-based Solutions for the Oil and Gas Industry Improve Response Times Using Akamai’s Terra Enterprise Solutions

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., March 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Akamai®Technologies, Inc. (AKAM), the leading cloud platform for helping enterprises provide secure, high-performing user experiences on any device, anywhere, announced today that eLynx Technologies, a leading provider of web-based monitoring, exception based alarming, and field automation services for the oil and gas industry is using Akamai Terra Enterprise Solutions to provide performance optimization for the company’s SCADALynx technology.

Delivered to customers as a SaaS offering, SCADALynx is designed to offer intelligent automation for organizations in the oil and gas production industry. According to eLynx, SCADALynx, provides the ability to monitor – in real time – various aspects of the drilling and production process including flow computers, compressors, pipelines, tanks and artificial lift devices, to name only a few. As important, eLynx notes that SCADALynx also provides the capability to remotely implement changes and make adjustments to the production environment based on the data provided by the system.

According to Ryan McDonald, director of IT at eLynx, consistent, predictable application performance is of paramount concern to the company and its customers. The ability to provide that level of customer experience was key to its decision to implement Terra Enterprise Solutions for cloud optimization.

“In the oil and gas industry the speed at which you receive data and the ability to act quickly on that data not only impacts productivity and profitability, but perhaps also safety,” explained McDonald. “Pairing our SaaS offering with Akamai solutions helps to ensure that potential problems with the Internet do not become problems for the delivery of our applications. Our customers get the information they need, when they need it and are able to take timely, appropriate actions to benefit their business.”

McDonald asserts that implementing Terra Enterprise Solutions in conjunction with SCADALynx has helped customers receive an average response time of less than one second from the application.

“For companies, the multiple benefits of SaaS adoption can be tempered by inconsistent performance associated with using the Internet as an application delivery platform,” stated Mike Afergan, senior vice president and general manager, Web Experience Business Unit, Akamai. “For companies like eLynx, Akamai’s Terra Enterprise Solutions are designed to eliminate this concern and help SaaS applications behave as if they were delivered on a dedicated WAN, therefore providing an exceptional user experience.”
