Windstream urges K-12 schools to leverage E-Rate funds for telecommunications and Internet upgrades

Application for FY2013 E-Rate funding must be started by Feb. 14

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – With this year’s E-Rate filing deadline rapidly approaching, Windstream (NYSE:WIN, news, filings), a leading provider of advanced network communications, is urging all K-12 schools and libraries across the country to apply in order to leverage discounts on telecommunications, Internet service and communications solutions.
The E-Rate program, administered by the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC), provides discounts up to 90 percent on certain telecommunication and Internet services, to eligible K-12 schools and libraries across the country.
The deadline to start the application process for FY2013 E-Rate funding is Feb. 14; schools and libraries then have until March 14 to choose their E-Rate service provider.
“Windstream has worked with thousands of K-12 schools and libraries to bring them affordable telecommunication and data solutions,” said Don Perkins, Windstream senior vice president of Business Marketing. “We have an E-Rate support team that has been involved with the program since it was first approved.”
Many of today’s schools are upgrading their networks to accommodate next-generation technology that enhances school curriculum and learning opportunities for students in the classroom. Windstream provides customized solutions for educational institutions across the country. These solutions include: technologically advanced phone systems and Unified Communications solutions, such as IP Simple; high-speed Internet access; networking solutions; and managed services such as managed network security and managed hosting.
With Windstream solutions, E-Rate qualifying schools are able to provide their teachers and students the resources needed to effectively communicate with parents, improve Internet-based learning, and network with all of the schools in a district. Libraries are able to add value to their membership services through enhanced online card catalogs and reference tools, and the ability to participate in e-book programs.
