FairPoint Makes Donation to Vermont Disaster Relief Fund

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (November 27, 2012) – FairPoint Communications, a leading telecommunications provider and Vermont employer, has made a contribution to the Vermont Disaster Relief Fund to help Vermonters still coping with the aftermath of last year’s mega-Tropical Storm Irene. The $7,000 donation was presented to Governor Peter Shumlin at a kick-off event of the Irene Recovery Campaign by the Vermont Disaster Relief Fund in downtown Burlington. The organization coordinates long-term recovery efforts throughout the state, bringing together the efforts of local and regional disaster recovery groups and funds. “So many Vermonters are still recovering after Irene and it’s essential they get the help they need,” said Mike Smith, Vermont state president for FairPoint. “Our employees worked tirelessly to help restore service in the days and weeks after Irene stormed through. With this donation, our hearts are with those who are still rebuilding.” More than $3 million has been raised by the fund, but organizers estimate they need an additional $6 million to help the more than 700 requests for assistance.
