Alpheus Communications Broadens Ethernet Services in South Texas with Significant Network Expansion to the Rio Grande Valley

Network investment expands Alpheus’ Ethernet footprint and offers long-haul circuits and cross-border interconnection to Mexico’s telecom concessionaires

HOUSTON – Oct. 8, 2012  Alpheus Communications, a leading provider of Texas metro-regional fiber and networking solutions, has significantly expanded its capabilities to provide Ethernet services to the Rio Grande Valley.  The expansion also gives more options to domestic carriers and Mexican concessionaires who need more interconnection points due to high demand for cross-border voice and data communications.

Alpheus customers will have access to the same high-quality Metro Ethernet solutions in South Texas that they currently enjoy in other large metro areas such as Dallas/Ft. Worth, Austin, San Antonio and Houston.  The addition of Ethernet services in South Texas rounds out Alpheus’ product portfolio for this region.  Customers that choose Alpheus services can now efficiently connect business locations in South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley throughout the state and beyond with a variety of transport solutions, including private-line services, dedicated Internet access, data center connectivity, and other high-bandwidth services.  Installation intervals and products will remain the same, but now Alpheus customers have a much deeper reach into South Texas.

“This latest network expansion was driven largely by customer demand to access more Texas markets on our network, so now we’re opening up additional markets and we’re always on the lookout for potential new markets,” said Chip Robertson, senior vice president of carrier sales for Alpheus Communications.  “Specific to South Texas, our customers will be able to leverage multiple Alpheus technologies to deliver Ethernet to businesses throughout the Rio Grande Valley while also using our network to haul traffic back to large metro markets throughout the state.”

Alpheus’ expansion throughout South Texas also creates more opportunities to pursue network-to-network interfaces with existing and prospective carrier customers, giving them maximum flexibility to enhance and optimize their own networks.

“We are a very nimble and flexible company, not only from a technology standpoint but from a business perspective as well,” Robertson said.  “Alpheus finds ways to give its customers what they need, and in many cases, that’s accumulating as much mass of traffic on our network as possible thanks to our Ethernet connectivity to more than 60 central offices across Texas.”
