Hibernia Media Acquires the TeliaSonera MediaConnect Business

SUMMIT, NJ & DUBLIN, IRELAND – August 28, 2012 – Hibernia Media, the video transport division of Hibernia Atlantic, announces today its purchase of the TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC) MediaConnect business in Europe and the US. This 13-country, media-specialized network doubles the size of Hibernia Media’s reach in Europe and combines the strengths of Hibernia Media’s 100% QoS network, and TSIC’s award winning backbone capacity network. Hibernia Media’s experience and focused media organization would be leveraged as it becomes the customer-facing entity and manages customer relationships while TSIC would focus on its core strength by providing high quality, backbone connectivity and other miscellaneous services between PoPs in the combined Media network.

The newly expanded Hibernia Media network will provide the world’s leading media companies with a video-enabled fiber network connecting 17 European markets via Hibernia’s extensive US network footprint. The combined high quality media network will deliver international sports programming, network programming, news segments, and global events. The acquisition expands Hibernia Media’s European footprint, which already includes London, Dublin and Brussels, into new markets such as Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Helsinki, Madrid, Munich, Oslo, Paris, Riga, Stockholm, Tallinn, Vienna, and Vilnius.

Hibernia Atlantic offers simplified global reach to key cities throughout North America, UK, Europe, and Asia on over 24,000 kilometers of high capacity network. Hibernia’s low latency and diverse custom routing options also provide the ability to select the appropriate Ethernet transport, from 10Mb to 10Gb, to meet customer requirements.

The integrated network is available immediately for full-time connections and pre-scheduled live video events. Hibernia Media’s Occasional Use live feed services will be available across the former TeliaSonera media network in Europe starting fourth quarter 2012. Frame Rate and Standards conversion can be accommodated for transatlantic NTSC, PAL and HD video signals. The new network will be managed from Hibernia Media’s 24/7 world-class Television Operations Center (TOC) in Baltimore, MD.

“Combining our assets with the Hibernia Media platform creates enhanced opportunities for both companies,” explains Erik Hallberg, President of TeliaSonera International Carrier. “With more than five years of investments into the TeliaSonera International Carrier media business combined with Hibernia Media’s extensive fiber system the new entity will provide greater reach and a broader set of highly managed network services uniquely capable of leveraging transport infrastructure to create global media solutions.”

“Hibernia Atlantic and TeliaSonera recognize the synergies and competitive advantages of a combined media network company,” states Ken Peterson, Chairman of the Board for Hibernia Atlantic and CEO of Columbia Ventures Corporation (CVC). “This acquisition consolidates significant media assets for the benefit of our combined media and broadcast partners.”

“The combination of our on-net media PoPs and venues in the US, with this added reach to a broader market throughout Europe, gives both of our customers extraordinary access to content origination, aggregation, and distribution channels over a robust fiber backbone,” continues Bjarni Thorvardarson, Chief Executive Officer for Hibernia Atlantic.
