Colt takes position at the centre of Europe’s Media business

We’re right at the heart of Europe’s media community with our presence in the UK’s BT Tower – 95% of UK video traffic and 75% of video traffic between the UK and Europe pass through this hub. For proximity, speed, and low-latency connectivity with leading players in the media and broadcast worlds, our position can’t be beaten and delivers exactly what today’s demanding media consumers want.
Switched-on solutions for always-on, content-hungry users
Broadcast requirements in today’s world of high-quality, instantaneous content – coupled with the increasing sophistication of audiences – revolve around receiving and sending growing volumes of data.
It’s great for consumers – they can see more, experience more, enjoy more, right there in their living room or from the comfort of their own, on-the-move, smart device. Customers are taking in their content in new ways, looking for ‘catch-up’ as well as live, online and mobile device delivery as well as television. New formats like HD and 3D are driving the need for more bandwidth and as consumers come to expect a wide range of free or inexpensive content from around the world, broadcasters need to be more agile in sourcing and delivering it.
Hands across the ocean
We’ve partnered with Hibernia Media, a division of the transatlantic cable operator and builder, Hibernia Atlantic, which provides fibre-based video transport for the broadcast industry in the US. This enables our customers to:

  • Access the content they need from Europe, Asia and the US.
  • Connect to and work with content-processing organisations in Asia and the US.
  • Transmit to locations such as Hong Kong, Delhi, Sydney and numerous locations in the US.

We’ve also transformed our multi-service platform (MSP) to support high-quality, high-speed video transport services across Europe and into the US and Asia. This now provides a cost-effective alternative to satellite transmission for distribution of core content, and the ability to transport both video and other data over the same network infrastructure transforming workflows.
Ahead of the game
As Europe’s leading information delivery platform we are connected to more media customers than any other provider in Europe and we provide daily live managed broadcast feeds to major broadcasters like Eurosport, MTV and Associated Press. Broadcasters can benefit from a unique combination of network reach and access to content delivered over fibre. It’s a full end-to-end service unmatched by any other (non-satellite) broadcast network provider.
We also have access to key sports and news content such as Barclays Premier League (UK’s top football league), RBS 6 Nations (annual international rugby union tournament), Roland Garros (the French Open tennis tournament) and the UEFA Champions League.
And it’s not just about broadcasting…
Colt provides media services to some of the world’s largest advertising and publishing houses, providing managed services and connectivity to their subsidiaries across Europe and beyond. Large newspaper groups also rely on Colt, especially for their new media requirements. For example Colt hosts and manages Bild.de the online version of one of Germany’s largest newspapers.
