Tata Communications cooperates with Turkcell Superonline to enable the access to its Tier 1 global internet backbone from Istanbul

Istanbul June 22 2012 Tata Communications in cooperation with Turkey’s innovative operator Turkcell Superonline, today announces the enabling of accessing to the Tata Communications’ Tier 1 global internet backbone via Turkcell Superonline’s reliable local and international infrastructure.

Tata Communications operates the world’s largest subsea cable network and a Tier 1 IP network, providing connectivity to over 200 countries across 400 PoPs. Turkcell Superonline will now make available to Turkish carriers and other European and Middle Eastern carriers in Istanbul connectivity to Tata Communications’ Tier 1 internet backbone. This connection will bring with it a broad range of access solutions with port speeds of up to 10 Gbit/s.

The new cooperation between both companies will enable customers and carriers to connect to major global internet exchanges via Tata Communications’ global, high-performance backbone and will also provide diverse and redundant routing options for optimum performance – all of which are backed by world-class 24×7 customer support and an industry-leading service level agreement that ensures optimal service delivery.

Radwan Moussalli, Tata Communications’ Managing Director and Regional Head, Middle East, North Africa and Turkey says, “Tata Communications has the world抯 largest and most advanced global submarine cable network available today, allowing carriers and enterprises to instantly connect anywhere in the world. With Turkcell Superonline’s enabling of access from Istanbul, it will be able to leverage Tata Communications’ vast portfolio of cost-effective services to allow Turkish, European and Middle East carriers to reach all major internet exchanges with our global, high-performance backbone. This will offer world class connectivity to customers here.”

In addition to resilience, service providers purchasing bandwidth from Istanbul will also benefit from the higher speeds and direct regional links offered by the new connection as opposed to having to buy international fibre through a cable network to London or any other city.

“Turkcell Superonline is very pleased to be partnering with Tata Communications to enable the first time direct access to the Tier 1 Global IP Network in Turkey with a seamless connection,” says Murat Erkan, CEO of Turkcell Superonline. “Tata Communications is one of the world’s largest global carriers of international data traffic and is also the only company to boast a wholly owned, complete, cable network ring around the world. Setting up the seamless access of Tier-1 Global IP Network in Istanbul is a significant step in our strategy to make Istanbul the region’s internet exchange centre.”

Turkcell Superonline is promoting Turkey as an intersection point for the global communication network both by supplying all the necessary infrastructures needed in the country and by maintaining international connections with the neighbouring countries and beyond.

“Turkey抯 strategic geographic location makes it an important bridge between the Middle East, Central Asia, and Europe. To utilise this strategic position and to change the traditional silk road into a ‘fibre road’, we have invested in creating a 30,000 km fibre network within the country. We believe our investments together with our new internet accessibility seamlessly connected to the Tata Communications’ network will greatly contribute to the region’s internet services” concludes Erkan.

The cooperation between both companies in Istanbul will offer dedicated international access from Istanbul to Tata Communications’ internet backbone to anywhere in the world.
