QFABRIC CHOSEN TO DRIVE NEXT-GENERATION DATA CENTER FOR JAN YPERMAN HOSPITAL

Leading Belgian Health Facility Focuses on Low Latency, Performance and Reliability to Support Patient Care, Research and Services

SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 15, 2012 – Juniper Networks (NASDAQ:JNPR, news, filings), the industry leader in network innovation, today announced that Jan Yperman Hospital, a general medical facility in Ypres, Belgium, has selected the Juniper Networks® QFabric™ System for its new data center infrastructure being built to support increasingly network-based patient care, research and teaching. The Juniper solution is designed to provide improved medical outcomes and better productivity throughout Jan Yperman Hospital by enabling ground-breaking clinical techniques and more efficient application performance. 180,000 patient contacts and 35,000 hospital admissions per year, 1,000 employees and 120 physicians will depend on the new network to provide reliable, high-performance, secure applications and data.

News Highlights
·         Jan Yperman Hospital is upgrading its data center infrastructure in response to the need for data-intensive, mission-critical applications within the hospital, such as robotic surgery and clinical video conferences.
·         The QFabric deployment has simplified the management of the hospital’s data center, reducing the number of managed switches to one.
·         Medical imaging brings a big data challenge to the network and is driving explosive data growth, which requires increased bandwidth and reliability. The delivery of those images to clinicians with minimal latency is mission-critical in today’s hospital environment. In addition, there is an increasing patient demand for BYOD, video-on-demand and network TV and this may never interfere or affect any clinical service.
·         Jan Yperman Hospital is deploying two QFX3000-G QFabric Systems, which can scale to support up to 6,144 10GbE ports each with an average latency of five microseconds server-to-server.
·         Each QFX3000-G system is composed of QFabric Nodes, which provide entry into the fabric; QFabric Interconnects, which connect the Node devices in a flat, any-to-any topology; and QFabric Directors, which provide management and control services, enabling the entire system to be managed as a single switch.
·         The solution being deployed by Jan Yperman Hospital also includes Juniper Networks EX Series Ethernet Switches in the local area network (LAN) environment, Juniper Networks SRX Series Services Gateways and Juniper Networks IC Series Unified Access Control Appliances for network security, and existing Juniper Networks WLA Wireless LAN Access Points and WLM Wireless LAN Management solutions.
·         The QFabric deployment is integrated fully with Jan Yperman Hospital’s existing infrastructure.
·         The deployment is being implemented and managed by Juniper Networks’ local partner, SecureLink.
Supporting Quotes
“Jan Yperman Hospital has a reputation for excellent patient care and research, so we really value innovative technology that can enable new working methods, clinical practices and patient services. QFabric is an ideal solution for our data center because it delivers radical capabilities, outstanding performance and also provides a future-proof path for scalability and cost control. Of course, reliability, simplicity and stability are also key concerns for a hospital’s network, all of which QFabric delivers. We were particularly impressed by its low latency.”
Francky Deleu, ICT manager, Jan Yperman Hospital
“This mission-critical deployment is a testament to the potential of the QFabric architecture and system. The solution selected by Jan Yperman Hospital is providing a dynamic data center platform for data-rich services and applications while offering investment protection and predictable, agile performance for the long-term.”
