BTI Systems Enables Fiberail to Drive Mobile Backhaul Expansion Across Malaysia

Deploys Industry-Leading BTI Packet Optical Networking and Intelligent Carrier Ethernet Access Portfolio

SINGAPORE – June 19, 2012

BTI Systems, the global leader redefining service delivery for metro network operators, today announced that Fiberail, one of the largest wholesale operators in Malaysia, has expanded its deployment of BTI’s Integrated Services Delivery Platform solutions. The deployment extends Fiberail’s delivery of Mobile Backhaul and Carrier Ethernet Business services across Malaysia and enables “international interconnect” services to Thailand and Singapore. The announcement was made at CommunicAsia at the Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. BTI’s booth is in the Canadian Pavilion, Stand BH3-01.

Fiberail provides the backbone infrastructure and ancillary services across Peninsula Malaysia to telecommunications providers, including Malaysia’s leading 3G Mobile and 4G WiMax operators. Recently, Fiberail expanded to provide metro Ethernet services to operators and financial service organizations, which complements the three fiber optic cable networks in place that deliver voice, data and video capabilities countrywide. Fiberail has 5000km of fiber optic cable networks along the railways and gas pipeline corridor passing through almost all major towns in Malaysia, and serves the country’s largest Telecoms Providers, Data Center Operators, Financial Services Organizations, and Application, Internet and Managed Services Providers as well as Global customers.

The Malaysia market for broadband and mobile services is growing rapidly. There are more than 34 million mobile subscribers and broadband household penetration is more than 55 percent. One in three mobile subscribers owns 3G devices with requirements for rapid content access. Mobile data and fixed broadband continue to drive growth in Malaysia, with an anticipated $14.6 billion service revenue for the telecom market by 2017, according to Pyramid Research.

Fiberail chose the BTI 7000 Series, a compact, modular and easy-to-use packet optical networking platform that converges Carrier Ethernet and wavelength services delivery at the metro service edge. Wavelength services are used by Fiberail to interconnect operators in neighboring countries. Leveraging the packetVX module, as part of the 7000 Series, enables Fiberail to cost effectively aggregate 10G capacity for Mobile Backhaul and Ethernet services delivery. Integration in a single platform alleviates the need for new infrastructure equipment to support different services.

With the BTI 700 Series, Ethernet connectivity through the access network is delivered directly to customer premises, allowing Fiberail to extend Carrier Ethernet services to carriers, data center operators, business customers and cell towers.

The combination of the 7000 Series and 700 Series provides Fiberail with unequaled end-to-end, low-latency Mobile Backhaul services.

“We continue to be impressed with BTI’s solutions, as we build out our Mobile Backhaul and metro Ethernet capabilities,” said a Corporate Spokesperson at Fiberail. “We chose BTI for this important network expansion as their solutions uniquely deliver very low latencies, interoperability with other vendors and a cost-effective ‘pay as we grow’ approach. We are able to move quickly to leverage new opportunities as BTI’s solutions are easy to deploy and scale, providing us with a strong competitive edge.”

“Fiberail has experienced significant growth over the past three years and we are glad to contribute to this success,” said Fahim Sheikh, Vice President of Sales, Asia Pacific at BTI Systems. “The combination of Carrier Ethernet and Optical DWDM in a single platform allows us to deliver Mobile Backhaul solutions with ultra-low latency and ultra-low jitter. This is critical for the delivery of next-generation 4G/LTE networks.”
