BTI Increases Global Packet Optical Networking Systems Market Share

Mobile Backhaul Demand Drives Customer Base Increase of 85 Percent – ACG Research Q1 2012 Report Shows BTI’s Market Share Surpassing Huawei

OTTAWA and BOSTON – June 5, 2012

BTI Systems, the global leader redefining service delivery for metro network operators, today announced that a new report by ACG Research – “Optical Networking 1Q 2012 Worldwide” – points to an increase in BTI’s Packet Optical Transport Systems (POTS) market position, reinforcing the Company’s worldwide momentum. The report further substantiates that BTI has passed Huawei in packet optical transport market share and is gaining on Ciena.

BTI will be exhibiting in the Canadian Pavilion, Stand BH3-01 at CommunicAsia. The 2012 event will take place June 19-22 at the Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.

BTI additionally announced an increase of more than 85 percent of new Mobile Backhaul customers across North America and APAC. Having announced the Company’s initial Mobile Backhaul solution in June 2011 with recent updates, the growth reflects the strong demand by metro service providers to keep pace with customer demand for mobile services. BTI is the first with a solution that supports widespread 3G and 4G deployments in metro and regional networks by providing an end-to-end, unified packet approach for voice, data and multimedia services with comprehensive service management.

“The fastest growing segment of the overall $12 billion optical market is packet optical transport systems,” said Eve Griliches, Principal Analyst at ACG Research. “Service providers are moving their networks rapidly from legacy equipment to packet optical for fixed and mobile support at the edge. Vendors, including BTI, who stay ahead of operator requirements with solutions that help drive new revenues will be the ones to thrive in this highly competitive marketplace.”

BTI recently announced significantly expanded customer relationships with Epsilon Telecommunications and Frontier Communications. BTI continues to strengthen its Integrated Services Delivery Platform with new solutions that enable service providers to profitably keep pace with the rapid growth in high-demand services, including over-the-top (OTT) video, cloud computing, mobility and Ethernet business services.

“A significant portion of the ‘action’ in service provider networks is taking place at the edge as it is where the value-add service opportunities lie,” said Steve Waszak, President and CEO of BTI Systems. “Significant drivers, including the explosive growth in tablet devices, demand for OTT video and the move by enterprises to cloud services are fueling new customer opportunities for BTI. We are poised to leverage these trends, and this new ACG report confirms that we are making strong progress in the packet optical networking market.”
