Alcatel-Lucent supports Telstra in the launch of a new ‘smart’ service helping Australian businesses manage their data network resources

Telstra’s new Application Assured Networking™ service to provide enterprises with greater visibility on application performance, helping identify, fix and prevent problems that could impact operations

Paris, May 23, 2012 – Telstra, Australia’s leading communications service provider, is launching a new ‘smart’ service – powered by Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) – that provides businesses with unprecedented visibility into how their enterprise network resources are being used.

Telstra’s new Application Assured Networking™ service, which is built on Internet protocol (IP) routing technology from Alcatel-Lucent, will bring a new level of intelligence to network management, giving enterprises invaluable information they can use to improve efficiency and operational integrity, while identifying technical issues that could impair operations and drive up expense.

Alcatel-Lucent’s Application Assurance solution is designed specifically for the virtual private networks (VPNs) and cloud-based services offered by communications service providers such as Telstra to supplement the dedicated networks of their enterprise customers. The solution identifies applications on these networks that are running too slowly or with insufficient quality and analyses the causes of those performance problems so that they can be addressed. Alcatel-Lucent worked in close collaboration with Telstra to design and bring its Application Assured Networking service™ to market in Australia.

As enterprises employ an increasing array of innovative, cloud-based services across their operations, IT decision-makers rank performance as their most critical concern.[1]

The solution from Alcatel-Lucent eliminates the need for enterprises to buy additional performance monitoring hardware, which can be costly to purchase and manage. Instead, that capability can be offered by service providers.

The Telstra Application Assured Networking™ service will provide enterprises with greater visibility and more control over the increasing number of financial, relationship management, IP telephony, video conferencing and other business applications travelling through their network. As importantly, it will help give enterprises the confidence that the applications they rely on – from both their own dedicated network and the cloud – are performing with maximum efficiency.

Philip Jones, Executive Director, Data and IP and Network Applications & Services, Telstra said: “With the ever increasing importance businesses are placing on IP networks, Telstra is building network capability to optimize the performance of the applications that matter by delivering intelligent network solutions for business and enterprise organizations. Application Assured Networking™ is another significant step in the evolution to a smarter network and Alcatel-Lucent has worked collaboratively with Telstra on this project to make this vision a reality.”

Sean O’Halloran, President and Managing Director, Alcatel-Lucent Australia said: “Enterprises are increasingly cooperating with their service providers to enhance the visibility and performance of business-critical applications running over their networks. Alcatel-Lucent’s innovative solutions and collaborative approach make us extremely well placed to assist Telstra’s enterprise customers maximise network performance and get the most from their digital investments.”
