LAS VEGAS, April 16, 2012 – Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NYSE:LVLT, news, filings) today announced the launch of a service that enables companies to see an objective, third-party analysis of their websites’ video streaming performance in real time across all content delivery networks (CDNs). The new service, Client Side Statistics, is fully integrated within Level 3’s MediaPortal, with data analyzed by Conviva – a market leader in video optimization and viewer experience.

More and more companies are using video content on their websites to help build their businesses. By 2014, 77 percent of U.S. online activity is projected to consist of video streaming, according to an industry research report by eMarketer.com. Level 3 is now offering customers an objective third-party tool that helps them better understand how each of their CDNs and individual video assets are performing. This allows customers to maximize the quality of their online presence, thereby improving audience engagement, which is expected to grow the customer’s overall business.

The new Client Side Statistics service delivers multi-platform performance statistics, with real time audience and quality insight metrics. This helps content owners identify and optimize popular content, as well as localize any issues to quickly pin down their source. The service also equips content owners with the tools they need to better manage relationships with their content delivery network vendors and make informed decisions about their technology purchases.

“With these analytics, Level 3 CDN customers have a one-stop shop where they can go to quickly access all the data they need on viewer engagement and video quality,” said Mark Taylor, vice president of Media and IP Services at Level 3. “This ensures they’ll have the information they need to offer a first-class customer experience while increasing viewing time, engagement and we believe ultimately helping our customers grow their revenue faster.”
