Unite Private Networks Completes 66-Mile Fiber Network in Houston County, Georgia

Unite Private Networks (UPN) today announced the completion of a 66-mile fiber-optic wide-area-network built to serve the Houston County Board of Education (HCBE) and other local customers. In connecting the HCBE schools, the fiber network covers much of Warner Robins, Centerville and Perry, Georgia. UPN worked with Flint Energies to access utility rights-of-way for much of the network.
“The Houston County Board of Education has a world-class IT department and goals to grow its network,” said Ron Reckrodt, Chief Operating Officer for UPN. “Their demands required a robust solution with exponential capabilities over their current network. Our unique solution will allow them to grow into the future so bandwidth never again becomes an obstacle to their goals. Every parent should be proud of the decision the Houston County Board made in choosing this option for the district’s future.”
“We needed a solution that would provide our school district dedicated and guaranteed bandwidth,” said Sharon Lunceford, Director of IT at the Houston County Board of Education. “UPN’s design will allow us to not only better utilize our existing technology, but will enable our district to plan and prepare for technology growth in the future. We are very excited about all the possibilities that this type of network will make available for us!”
According to Reckrodt, the project was delivered on time and on budget with the assistance of Flint Energies. “Flint is truly a standup community member. When we told them we were doing this for the schools, there was no question it was going to get done right.”
UPN provides high-bandwidth, fiber-based communications networks and related services to schools, governments, carriers, data centers, hospitals, and enterprise business customers located in 19 states.
