Terremark Cloud-Enabled Data Centers Recertified as PCI DSS Compliant

Company’s Underlying Infrastructure Supporting Cloud, Colocation and Managed Hosting Solutions Certified as Meeting Industry-Recognized Security Standards

January 31, 2012

MIAMI – Terremark, a Verizon Company, has received certification that six of its cloud-enabled data centers are compliant with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) version 2.0. Terremark’s commercial and government customers that process credit card transactions can manage and house their business-critical applications knowing the supporting infrastructure is protected at the industry-recognized standard for payment-card security.

The cloud, colocation and managed hosting services delivered from Terremark’s facilities in Dallas, TX; Pleasanton, CA; Miami, FL; Culpeper, VA; Sao Paulo, Brazil; and Amsterdam, the Netherlands successfully maintained compliance with the PCI DSS for storing, processing and transmitting credit card information. In order to achieve PCI DSS compliance, Terremark underwent an extensive evaluation of its policies, procedures and technical systems by a third-party qualified security assessor. The examination also included on-site assessments and an audit of Terremark’s system wide vulnerability scan program at these data centers.

“Terremark’s track record of achieving compliance with highly regarded industry standards such as PCI DSS continues to be a key differentiator for Verizon in the enterprise and federal markets,” said Nelson Fonseca, president of Terremark. “In supporting the critical applications that drive our customers’ operational success, Terremark remains focused on delivering the secure, cloud computing and IT infrastructure solutions from PCI-complaint facilities that address the needs in the market.”

The PCI DSS, developed to enhance cardholder data security and facilitate the broad adoption of consistent data security measures globally, provides a baseline of technical and operational requirements designed to protect cardholder data. Intended to help organizations proactively protect customer account data, the PCI DSS is a multifaceted security standard that includes requirements for security management, policies, procedures, network architecture, software design and other critical protective measures.

In addition to PCI DSS, Terremark data centers have achieved various other certifications, including ISO/IEC 27001:2005 and SAS 70 Type II. Terremark services are backed by stringent Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and are supported by a number of redundant subsystems designed to alleviate single points of failure throughout the delivery path.
