NTT America Achieves Record Growth for NTT Communications’ Global IP Network as Capacity Reaches 600 Gbps

Transpacific network capacity has tripled in less than two years
Dec 21, 2011

NEW YORK – NTT America, a wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) and a Tier-1 global IP network services provider, today announced that the NTT Communications Global IP Network has achieved 600 Gigabits per second (Gbps) of capacity on its transpacific network, making it among the highest capacity networks available to the region.

The jump from 500 Gbps to 600 Gbps of capacity in 2011 occurred within a four month timeframe, further, in less than two years NTT America has tripled its transpacific network capacity, demonstrating the strength, reliability and scalability of the NTT Communications Global IP Network to support the exponential growth of Internet demands. The company attributes this record-breaking growth to continued demand from customers for Tier-1 network services in the Asia Pacific markets and globally.

“Our deep understanding of the Asia Pacific market, as well as our robust routes within the region, are several of the major competitive differentiators that contribute to NTT America’s rapid growth. Our transpacific path continues to see some of the highest volumes of traffic globally,” said Michael Wheeler, vice president, NTT Communications Global IP Network, NTT America. “With its continued exponential growth, the NTT Communications network remains a strong backbone for our customers – from enterprises to ISPs – to access new growth opportunities and position themselves competitively.”

The growth of NTT Communications’ transpacific network has benefited customers connecting through point of presence (PoP) locations on its Global IP Network backbone in the United States, Europe, Asia and most recently, Latin America, providing them a significant competitive advantage. For example, when leading cloud infrastructure provider GoGrid and its international customer base grew substantially via its global cloud platform, the company chose NTT Communications’ Tier-1 Global IP Network to increase broadband capabilities and provide new growth opportunities.

“The NTT Communications Global IP Network enables GoGrid, the world’s leading pure-play Infrastructure-as-a-Service company, to provide high-performing, flexible cloud solutions to our customers around the world,” said Bobby Brown, vice president of operations for GoGrid. “We pride ourselves on offering the highest level of customer service, which is why the reliability, seamless global reach and industry leading uptime of the NTT Communications network has been instrumental to us.”

NTT America connects telecommunications companies, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), content providers, Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) and enterprises to major markets around the world via NTT Communications’ Tier-1 IP Backbone Network. The NTT Communications network provides high-volume data transport at a complete range of commercial-strength bandwidth options, using the most advanced technologies to provide fast and efficient data transport.
