Multi-million dollar contract enables innovative healthcare IT applications in rural communities via PAETEC’s high-speed IP network

PAETEC Holding Corp. (NASDAQ: PAET) today announced that it will provide Rural Area Health Education Center (R-AHEC) with a a high-speed IP-network for the Western New York Rural Broadband Healthcare Network (WNYRBHN). This work is part of a 60-month contract valued at $6 million that will serve 38 facilities with advanced Internet and MPLS-based VPN over PAETEC’s fiber optic network.
The WNY RHBN is an IP-based network that provides each partner facility a minimum of 10 Megabits per second (Mbps) bandwidth over a secure enterprise wide-area-network, with Quality of Service (QoS). When fully implemented, the WNY RBHN will bring advanced healthcare services such as telemedicine, imaging, and electronic medical records to rural areas including Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC), not-for-profit hospitals, rural health clinics, and post secondary educational institutions.
