ADTRAN Continues to Make Ethernet Anywhere a Reality

NetVanta® 850 receives MEF certification and enables service providers to scale for 4G and residential broadband demands

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Nov. 30, 2011– ADTRAN®, Inc., (NASDAQ:ADTN, news, filings), a leading provider of next-generation networking solutions, today announced the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) has certified ADTRAN’s NetVanta 850 Carrier Ethernet Access Gateway compliant to MEF9 and MEF14. The certification of the NetVanta 850, along with ADTRAN’s other certifications of Ethernet solutions, recognizes the company’s commitment to delivering high-performance Ethernet Anywhere, enabling service providers to reach any customer with any rate, at any site, for any market segment, and increasing the addressable market for new revenue-generating services.

Optimized for infrastructure backhaul, the NetVanta 850 Carrier Ethernet Access Gateway helps service providers quickly respond to the growing demand in 4G wireless and residential broadband initiatives. By extending 100 Mbps Ethernet services for either cell site or DSLAM backhaul, the NetVanta 850 allows service providers to keep pace with demand for carrier class, high-bandwidth services by leveraging existing infrastructure as an alternative to high-cost fiber or microwave build-outs. The NetVanta 850, working together with ADTRAN’s Total Access® 5000 Ethernet access and aggregation platform, delivers one of the industry’s most versatile and flexible Carrier Ethernet solutions to enable scalable deployment models with the lowest total cost and fastest time-to-revenue.

“The MEF has seen Carrier Ethernet deployments continue to grow at an astounding rate, so much so that Carrier Ethernet has now surpassed the combined total of legacy and alternative technologies in the market,” said Nan Chen, president, MEF. “As a result, it is now more important than ever for companies like ADTRAN to bring certified and innovative solutions to market that enable service providers to stay ahead of the growing bandwidth demands.”

“Receiving the MEF certification for the NetVanta 850 complements ADTRAN’s strong track record of helping service providers deliver better services to more customers with a broad Carrier Ethernet portfolio,” said Robert Conger, product line manager for Carrier Ethernet, ADTRAN’s Carrier Networks Division. “The MEF 9 and 14 certification of this alternative 100 Mbps service option reflects ADTRAN’s commitment to delivering high QoS with high availability solutions that allow service providers to stay at the leading edge of the network and the market.”
