Nextel Peru Unveils World’s First WCDMA Push-to-Talk Service

Lima, Peru, 30 September, 2011: On the opening day of the Feria Gastronómica Mistura de Lima (Mistura Gastronomic Festival), Nextel Peru unveiled the world’s first WCDMA Push-to-Talk (PTT) service based on Huawei’s end-to-end QChat PTT solution and Qualcomm’s QChat platform. This breakthrough represents the beginning of the next generation of WCDMA services for Nextel’s subscribers.

Huawei’s QChat PTT solution was designed to meet the needs of small- and medium-sized companies that value instant communications supported over a high-speed data network. Thanks to the simplicity of Nextel’s unlimited radio services and productivity-driven applications, Peruvian users are now able to enjoy unfettered communications at the touch of a button.

Nextel Peru worked closely with both Huawei and Qualcomm in developing this service. Huawei supplied Nextel with its QChat PTT end-to-end solution, comprised of terminals, RAN (radio access network) which was first deployed in 2009, and packet systems. Qualcomm supplied Nextel with its QChat platform, which serves as the basis for the WCDMA PTT service, offering users optimal PTT performance over Nextel Peru’s WCDMA network
