KINBER Selects Torreypoint to Build Stimulus-Funded Network Using Technology from ADVA Optical Networking and Juniper Networks

State-Wide Fiber Optic Network Provides State-Of-The-Art Communication Services for Pennsylvania

TorreyPoint announced today that KINBER, the Keystone Initiative for Network Based Education and Research, selected the Company to build a stimulus-funded state-wide network using integrated technology from ADVA Optical Networking and Juniper Networks. This fiber optic network represents the foundation of PennREN, the Pennsylvania Research and Education Network, a high speed fiber broadband network providing 100Mbit/s to 10Gbit/s Ethernet connectivity across the state of Pennsylvania. TorreyPoint delivers a turnkey solution using optical transmission, switching, routing and network management technology from ADVA Optical Networking and Juniper Networks.

“KINBER’s mission is to serve Pennsylvania through the establishment and sustainment of a high-speed research and education network that connects our institutions of higher learning with K-12 programs to advance the education, health care, work force development and training programs across the Commonwealth,” said Jeff Reel, Executive Director at KINBER. “We selected TorreyPoint because their partnership with ADVA Optical Networking and Juniper Networks demonstrates a strong, integrated team with a commitment to building value-added networks.”

TorreyPoint’s expertise in deploying multiple networks simultaneously, along with their role as system integrator and information systems consultancy provides KINBER with design, implementation and support for their next generation network. “Our network innovations result in secure, scalable, and transparent networks that provide seamless connectivity and increase operational efficiency,” said Steve Fazio, CEO of TorreyPoint. “TorreyPoint’s legacy of success in the education and government sectors will support KINBER’s initiative of ‘Connecting Pennsylvania’ and hundreds of universities, colleges, K-12 schools, government entities, medical and research facilities, and last mile networks. ”

ADVA Optical Networking adds scalability and intelligence to networks, while removing the complexity and cost. This was a strong factor in KINBER’s decision process, along with ADVA Optical Networking’s demonstrated success and strong references in the Research & Education community. “ADVA Optical Networking is known for innovation, speed and being a trusted partner,” said John Scherzinger, Senior Vice President of Sales in North America. “Our integrated approach with Juniper Networks and TorreyPoint clearly showed the value of our GMPLS control plane, which simplifies network configuration efforts and lowers operating expenses. This results in a more efficient network, in terms of reliability and bandwidth management.”

“A high-performance network infrastructure with built-in simplicity, security, openness and scale is a key benefit of partnering with Juniper Networks,” said Mike Marcellin, vice president of systems strategy and marketing for the Platform System Division at Juniper networks. “We are uniquely able to contribute to this partnership because of our extensive experience working with government agencies and higher education organizations around the world. Coupled with the innovative solutions and technology of TorreyPoint and ADVA Optical Networking, this dynamic trio is bound to see results.”
